I have gone thru 8 of those cheap arse internet/Amazon ph pens/meters in just 2 years and I have never found them to be reliable at ALL !!!!! As I am also the operator for our community water system, I have to do daily water tests for our drinking water as well as for my girls. Every pen has quickly become extremely slow, if it measured the actual ph in the first place and if I touch the pen(even almost touching it) the readings would jump all over the place from one end of the scale to the other!

So I conferred with Hanna instruments and ordered a new meter. Seeing as the entire cost can be written off(or reimbursed) due to being the water operator I purchased one of their new Groline ph/ec/tds/temp meters. It is rather costly but still a freebie! It is unique in that the probe is on a 1m cable and can be set with a single point quick calibration or a standard 2 point cal.

I was able to play around with the meter a little. After reading the instructions and familiarizing myself with the meter I tried the quick cal single point calibration,,, super simple to complete(it is all automatic). I then tried the meter on some 4.0 and 10.0 calibration fluid and it was spot on and nearly instantaneous. The meter reads out ph, ec/tds, temp at the same time.

I thought the cable setup would be cumbersome but it works out rather nice, it allows you to place the actual display where you can see it best. Another nice item is it uses 3 AAA batteries with a battery life indicator.

I will update this thread when I have a few.more days working with it.

Good luck with the Hanna. I have owned this model for 2 years, and has worked flawlessly. Further, customer support is awesome when I have called them to explain questions i have had. One drawback for me--- was a little clunky to find the calibration mode.

I agree, I tried to read the directions yesterday(after a half dozen bong hits) and I had difficulties so after a good nights sleeeeeeep I played around with the meter and directions and got the hang of it.

The old saying "buy cheap and you buy many times" most certainly applies to those cheap ph meters!!!

I have had a few days with the new Groline meter and I am impressed with it so far, so much so that I am seriously considering going with coco for my next grow. I just never had ANY confidence or experience in the cheaper "Ph pens" providing a consistently correct reading.
