Does PH down act stronger when your using distilled water with like a ppm of 8? I usually have to add like 70ml to bring 25 gallons of 350 PPM water down from 8.5 to like 6.0, then I adjust accordingly. Well I went and bought 25 gallons of distilled water, checked my ppm, it was 8, checked my PH, it was 8.5, I then added 40ml of GH PH down, and it brought my entire 25 gallon system down to 2.9! I know my meter is not off, because I just calibrated it. BTW. I'm a clean freak and just got done stearlizing everything. I got the Humidifier running. 35% for the RH. OOOOOOOOO. Also, When I added the PH down to the distilled water (25 gallons) it brought the ppm up to like 325. I didn't think PH down or up had any affect on PPM?

yes 40 mls is a lot for that much distilled water... its about buffers... non-distilled water as TBM said has components which combat the ph down (sometimes lime or calcium in solution... etc)

When buffering ph.... its always best to do a little at a time.... I too, have been having ph issues... and I'm intimately familiar with it... so dont feel bad... just stay in the ph game till you're on point. :smokeit:

I find if using distilled it may be a good idea to mix some tap water in to act as a buffer a small background ec is beneficial

hey guys.. i was reading this thread and i have a question. i fed my girl yesterday with nutrient solution. my e.c was at 1,9. after i added ph down to lower my ph, my e.c raised to 2,1. do i have to count this 0,2 too? because as i think it the fert stays the same.

i doubt you added .2 ec just from ph down some acids can be used at nutrient but you need to see if your ec in the res goes up or down this will indicate under or over feeding

if this is after you fed the plants your over feeding and you need to drop your ec lower in general

I have found that PH down lowers Distilled anywhere from (0.04 - 1.0) per drop per gallon. I'm not sure why there's such variation. It's probably because the size of a drop can vary. Anyway, the point is that it acts much more potently than PH up in Distilled for whatever reason. I wouldn't think you need to add anything to the Distilled water. Just use less PH Down.

the issue is the swing after you add it to the plants as the react with the nutrient

i'm not in hydro.. i use soiless peat moss/perlite medium... i feed my girls, counting the e.c from the nutrient solution. and yes. after i add ph down in the water, ec raises by .2.. i.e from 1,7 goes to 1,9
