...Papaver Somniferum(The Opium Poppy) Growing...

I bet the rain killed the potency pretty quick, I had some similar bad luck in the last week... Also...
It seems to take a lot of tar to get a buzz for me (4-5 grams), but thinking back on my recent medical history since I have had RSD in my knee, I am much more tolerant of opiates now more than ever. I am prescribed 50X 15mg Oxycontin per month and have been on that for almost a year now. A while back my doc and I discussed alternatives to help maintain a lower tolerance like switching back and forth between Vicodin, the oxy and morphine... Morphine is the primary active component in raw opium, and I was prescribed morphine at 50% more mg per month as morphine is less potent than oxycodone (Oxycontin and Percocet) at a ratio of 1.5 to 1, it did almost nothing when I took 85 mg pure morphine... (if it was 85mg Oxycodone I'd be nodding out hard) This all leads me to believe that unless it is pure pod cut opium that I can smoke, my tolerance is so high that it's probably not worth the effort or extra chemicals to ingest poppies in any form. Unfortunately it looks like my days of getting free nods is over, slave to the pharmies....:cuss:
Is it possible you are in my situation? If so my guess is morphine won't be enough for you unless your smoking or (eek:no:) shooting it...

Not quite the same situation, surffreak. I feel for you, mate. Enjoying opiates when you want to is one thing but having to take them for severe pain is quite another. My dad is in exactly that position and has been for years.

My days of heavy opiate use are long behind me and I haven't had any since poppy time last year, but I have been hammering the kratom for a few months now and had some this morning. I guess that might be messing with me. I've been managing to keep my tolerance to k at a good level and only use plain leaf, but this is the first time I've used opiates since getting into it.

I have tried kratom a few times but never really got to nodding, what's the biggest dose of kratom you've tried and liked Clyde? I like what I've experienced, I've had a bit of the extract but didn't know the strength and never got much more than a relaxed, happy, slightly energized feeling from a 12 gram tea brew of Maeng Da leaf, and never ordered more... Do you think I'm wasting my time with kratom?

I rarely get to nodding either, Surffreak. It depends on the strain - Bali and some indos (e.g. Kali) give me more of a nod than the others. but not always. Somedays it just doesn't work and I find if I push the dose higher I get no effect and get nauseous instead. I got some lotus seed powder and find a few spoons of that with the kratom helps get a heavy body load going, more like opiates.

I don't take more than a teaspoon and a half of kratom - that seems to be my sweet spot.

I can't really say from experience, but I'd imagine you would be wasting your time if you were looking for something in kratom that can be slotted in between strong opiates. It's just not that kind of thing. I know some people use it for opiate withdrawal, but I don't think they enjoy it very much. Taken as a herb with its own unique effects, I find it worth exploring, but as I say, I've been away from the heavy stuff for many years now, so I can't say how it interacts.

Wanted to ask you for more info about the rain thing with the poppies. This is worrying me. Does the rain leach the opiates out of the plants? Even in the green ones that haven't started to turn brown? And if it does, will a few days of warm dry weather allow them to recharge or should I pull them now while there's still something there?

Rain dilutes the opiates more from the inside when green (unless it's an incised green pod, then it washes the sap away...) and leeches from the outside more when brown, but either way rain is bad for potency... Unfortunately the best you can do is wait until a full nice day and cut before you go to sleep that night if you suspect more rain or chance leaving them as they do "recharge" a bit once it gets dry again... Another option is to let them dry a bit on the stalks if you think the weather will be dry towards the end... Really all you can do is try to harvest as long after a rain as possible without letting it die completely... If you can control irrigation the rule of thumb as far as poppies are concerned is as much as it'll drink during veg and barely enough to keep alive during pod ripening, and never water from the top of the plant down, instead flood the area and leave the pods dry...

I'm gonna have to qualify what I said about kratom yesterday.... I wasn't thinking about the possibility of combining kratom and opium at the time, but this evening I made another batch of opium leaf and stem juice with a little less material and drank it along with my regular amount of kratom.... I'm presently enjoying a very nice buzz - thoroughly recommend this combo. Just never had the opportunity to try it before.

Had an idea today for next season's grow. I could build a little section of roof in my yard to put the poppies under when they get close to ripening. I was thinking of using clear corrugated plastic, like the stuff carports are made of - about 2x3 square meters would do. It wouldn't take much time and effort to put together and I could tell the neighbours it's so that we can sit outside even when it's raining - I'll put a garden seat under it. When the poppies are getting near the end, I'll drag the planters under the shelter of the roof and water them as needed.

Thats a great idea! Wish I had space for that... Hope it works out for ya! Maybe I'll try mixing some kratom with some Oxy to see how that affects me...

So I just started some Papaver Somniferum indoors. And I am looking for all the help I can get. I used Fox Farm Ocean Forest potting soil. And when the spout up I am going to feed them with Age Old Kelp. For any one who is in Colorado and has grown Papaver Somniferum Give a shout out to me or PM me with your advice.

Hey there man, most of your questions have likely been answered on this very thread, I know it's a long read but it will give you much insight as to how to grow poppies... if you take a look through it or have any specific questions I'd be happy to help... I recently cut down all my poppies this year, mostly hens and chicks, and do not plan on growing them again while I have my medical marijuana card. It's just not worth the risks for me personally anymore as my tolerance is huge with my scripts... I have had much experience with poppies however, and can probably answer most of your questions right off the bat! Might also want to introduce yourself on the introductions forum so people know you exist, as I am one of the few that frequents the poppy thread...

Thank you surffreak I have read through most of this forum and as well I did not see to much on Colorado indoor growers. I guess I will let every one know how it goes. Just went out and bought a T12 shop light with two Phillips grow tubes and a timer set on a 12 on 12 off all together spent $51 at home depot vs local grow stores at $75. I have my plants sitting near my ac wall unit and the temp is at a constant 57f with 46% humidity. What is recommended for the seedlings as far as a light schedule?
