Hey fellow growers , I had a slight infestation of spider mites on my recent auto flower grow , so I went to my towns Home Depot and picked up some been oil. Some of my friends had told me about it and how organic growers usually use been oil for any insects and stuff . Well my autoflowrer was in the early stage of flowering when I applied the been oil I didn’t apply to the flowers though . I just didn’t feel right about using it it stunk super bad so I just sprayed on the base of my plant and onto the soil …. Some may have gotten on a few of the lower buds but this has been a few weeks ago and now I’ve just finished harvesting …. Should I be worried at all ? I have never used oil and I don’t know if it’s safe to smoke and stuff afterwards lol I think it should be fine just wanted to ask y’all’s opinion first ?

I assume you mean Neem oil?
You want to avoid getting it on the buds as much as possible, and not use too close to harvest, but with a few weeks buffer you should be good. The biggest negative is the strong smell you mentioned.

Really make sure to go atomic with your cleaning before the next run. Spider mites can be hard to completely get rid of, use chemical cleaners, and do multiple passes.

good luck!

Yes I meant neem oil , I hate autocorrect. The only thing that is worrying me is what if I got a little bit on the lower buds . I read on one website it will just alter taste and smell then on another it says it can make you sick and have kidney failure lol . I’m sure that means digested in pretty big quantity though …. Idk I’m pretty confused about the whole thing I probably will just try to steer clear of using it from now on , but my flower should still be okay to smoke even though I sprayed it on the lower stalk and soil of my plant right ?

Avoid the lower buds you think might have gotten a little on them if you want to be extra cautious, but you are totally safe to blaze those buds. Neem is probably the best option without going to chemical alternatives, but trying to keep the mites away is of course the best strategy.

They always start on the leaves, usually larger fan leaves, so if you catch it early and you have a small garden with space to work you can make a solution of neem and wipe it on the affected areas to avoid spraying.

On of the great triumphs of autos is that they will usually finish before any of the worst problems (ie. PM or spider mites) become unmanageable.

Thank y’all for the feedback and I think I may just try to give the buds a good wash and let em dry . I mean… would y’all smoke the bottom lil buds or toss em ? Cause I think I may just wash them n keep em …I can’t stand the thought of wasting any flower lol . But then again I don’t really k ow if any neem oil really got on the bottom buds I just tried to spray the soil but like I said it could have got a lil bit on the lower buds … was also couple weeks ago … I guess just tell me …would y’all throw em out . Or blaze it all up ?

Hey, are the buds drying? Do they smell like Neem? Personally i would separate and dry them, cure a bit and see how they taste like. Post an update please!

I'm new to growing and i plan to use Neem oil, i'll be checking this post to find out more :)
