Organic Pesticide & Insecticide

I read somewhere that Diatomaceous earth mixed in soil will take care of most unwanted pests. I am thinking of mixing it into soil about a week before I pot plants. Any thoughts?

DE only kills insects when it is dry. Bone dry. If you mix it in the soil, it will not act as an insecticide. Putting it on the surface of dry soil will work if bugs crawl through it. The bugs need to get the dry powder on themselves for it to do anything. :goodluck:

OK , Thank you. I was wondering about it mainly for those nasty fungus gnats.

for nats, I find just cover the medium so they can’t get in and out of it works best for me.

for mites, they leave my healthy plants alone and go after my plants that are not so healthy.

if still having problems, I’d suggest a neem spray right before they take off flowering since anytime after is not fun

I'll second the dr zymes or look into tweetmint. Growers ally makes a product like dr zymes too. As for de a good tip for gnats using that is to dust straw then you can move it out of the way to water but I'd honestly just top dress some castings to break their cycle. I've used dr zymes, the growers ally powdery mildew spray, and essential oils to good effect. Neem I hear is good too but not all been is created equal. You can also you micronised sulfur.
