New Grower Ordering advise for a 1st timer

After long time lurking on the site i'm finally ready to start ordering supplies for my first grow. My question is what should I buy first or what are the things that I would need to start out with? Im only 22 and like most people nowadays im basically living paycheck to paycheck so I dont have alot of money to spend. My plan is to order a bag or two of the promix organic, a pack of 3 gallon grow bags, and my seeds which ive decided on the purple jems from here at the afn shop. I have four of the blue cfls to start the seeds out with and am planning on ordering a 240w blackstar in about 2 weeks when I get my next check. I want to get a grow tent but have a little compartment in my closet that i could use for the first couple weeks, or should a tent be one of my first purchases? also i will be getting a carbon filter and inline fan down the road before the plants hit flowering. So should i be good for now or if Im not going in the right direction can someone please get me on the right track. thanks

yea true. I've been doing some research and Im either going to get Mother Earths super teas or Earth Juice grow and bloom. Im Trying to go as organic as I can. Earth Juice runs about 25 bucks and the Mother Earth is about 50 heres a link to both

If seeds from the AFN shop take about a month to get here I'll go ahead and order them today and hopefully have everything I need by the time the seeds get here. Also one other question does anyone know what freebies the shop is giving out at the moment? or is it random everytime?

Welcome to AFN.

I too am a youngin', and can relate to the money, or lack thereof. I have never grown before finding this site, and after I read the first few threads I was hooked.

I started out with a low budget grow and I have had pretty good results so far. My recommendations:

Get the best soil you can find. I recommend a mixture of Fox Farms Ocean Forest and Fox Farms Lite Warrior.

For Nutes I have been using Fox Farms Liquid Line and I love it. Grow Big (I have not used) Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom (I have used these with great results).

I propagate saltwater corals and I know a lot about lighting. I use LEDs exclusively over my aquariums, and I thought that I wanted to do the same thing with my plants.
Well, my inner Jew made up my mind on that real quick... $1400 LEDS or $120 HPS?........

I have been using teeny little 150w HPS exclusively and I think my plants look good.

Pots- I used square and I love em'

As for smell, I am pretty sure that there is no way in hell that I could hide the odor of my girls at the moment. Even with a great exhaust fan and carbon filter, they are just soooooo damn smelly. Please be prepared for the wonderful stench you are about to create. Dont underestimate it And dont underestimate the sniffers of other people. Even little kids get a small whiff and are like what is that smell......

Having a grow tent is nice, but if you have access to a nice hidden closet, it can be just as effective.

Just like Bandit said... Do not underestimate the smell. I am in a tiny house and unless I have my door closed to my room the entire house reeks. A lot!!! and I've only got 4 girls going, granted they are all about a week away from being chopped but still, the smell has been an issue for quite some time now.

yea my hidden compartment is about 36inx32in and i dont think one 240w blackstar will fully cover that area thats why I was asking about a tent. and heat isnt really a problem for me but if I can I would like to avoid it.as for smell i have my own townhome so as long as the smell doesnt overwhelm my neighbors i should be fine. everyone that lives around me smokes but no one knows about my plan to grow my own and i plan on keeping it that way. I think the jems would be a good strain to start with since its beginner friendly and doesnt really have an overwhelming smell. So would you advise that I use the fox farm soil? the pro-mix is alot cheaper and i have heard good things about the brand name. I can get 2 bags of the pro-mix for less than one bag of OF.

thanks for the advise. yea ive been doing alot of research and have changed my set up a couple times already. I just want to make sure I do it right the first time and stay as stealthy as possible because im def. not trying to lose my freedom. that ona gel looks pretty cool. do you just leave it in your grow area until its time to be replaced or how does it work?
