Indoor Ok Im Officially Pissed!

why are you germing seeds in the dark? a seed outdoors in the soil has quite afew hours of sunshine even before they break the surface, i guess i am confused.
It's a fair point and a fair question to ask. It is true that in nature seeds fall on the ground in the light, but what usually happens is that it rains first, and they get a bit washed down under some soil. Those are the ones that have a high success rate in nature, and the ones that bake on the top in dry soil tend not to do so well, because they need the moisture to penetrate the husk, too. So, I guess we try and germ in the dark (or limit light) to make the seed think that it's under the topsoil? That, plus the moisture, and I believe (not 100%) that it thinks that it's time to germ.

I think. ;)

also a good point bb, i do soak seeds 12 hours then into peat pellets, covered, so they are not getting the light right away. but the shoot can tell witch way is up to the light.

I'm not 100% so don't quote me.. but I think the taproot uses gravity to tell which way is up/down,. I think it sort of points up at first, then curls back down into the soil in a sort of sideways "S" shape..

It's one of the reasons I started germing directly into soil. I used to swear by the paper towel method but I started to notice that a few of my seedlings were popping with the taproot not knowing what the fuck to do and curling back into itself.. and some of them growing into the tissue itself.. so I dropped that and started going straight to soil (tip down) and so far it's been working out ok and all of the seedlings are growing straight and upright out of the soil. Some of the ones I germed in tissue (although they all sprouted) had a bit of diffculty settling in the soil in the right direction and that led to stunted plants.

But all that bollocks aside.. you can't really beat the "whatever works best for you" method. ;)

I plant directly into Jiffy pucks. My wife does the soak em and paper towel em method. Neither of us can convince the other whick way is right. Imagine if we were Republican and Democrat we would totally be screwed. We try not to talk about it anymore even if I think she is wrong.

hey bb, i like your style!:smokebuds:you can have a discussion without any angst. i approach growing using logic, it seems you do too!
and i see the logic in what you say! more than likley we are both right. "whatever works best works for me" i hope you dont mind i stole some of your quote:crying::peace:

This is it exactly.. but what can ya do? None of us can deny that all of our methods work to some degree, but what I can say is that we're obviously right and the rest of them are just lucky :D

Cheers mate I appreciate that. But don't be fooled.. I'm a miserable arse sometimes too. I'm just on best behaviour while I'm new and all that. You know how it is. :D

I certainly try to.. but most of the time I'm a gibbering emotional wreck who's panicking at the slightest discolouration on one bottom leaf. It takes discipline to look at things in their base components and strop adding boosters and seaweed all the time, and instead reduce the lights or airflow to get a better result.

Yeah exactly. If you had a team of scientists working around the clock to examine every single little detail about a grow, right down to the air quality in that region and specific gamma radiation readings for solar flares on the day of germing, then maybe you could say that XYZ method works 100% of the time for everyone. Erm.. not in this reality. I know my way works for me.. but for all we know it could be something as simple as me having seaweed residue in my spraying bottle, or because I happen to germ my seeds at a specifc time of day without realising it, and that just happens to be ideal for the strain that I like to grow. Fuck knows. Seriously... how far do we wanna go looking into it? All the percy growers here are just trying to grow some weed and fuck-off the arsehole dealers selling rubbish at 1.2g for 20 quid!! Sod that.. even my first grow paid for itself ten times over!!

Your ph could be out all thoughout your grow.. but if the plant you're growing gives you enough weed at a quality that you're happy with.. why worry about it? Thus, if you look at it logically, ph'ing the water isn't necessary for you because you've achieved your goal without needing to worry about it. Because of the amount I smoke, I haven't yet reached my goal.. but the more I learn from other growers the closer I get.

Anyway.. I reckon that if we all did everything the same on every single grow we'd be bored shitless growing it all the time. Bit of variety is the spice of life and all that. And.. I'm wafflng again. Sorry.. :D

All my logic is a waste of time. Everytime I just go ahead and piss in the wind I seem to learn something new. I liked the Missouri licence plate quote "The showme state" Then agai most of Missourri is still waiting to be shown. Of course Missourri is the most like Japan I have ever saw. If someone has a great idea it ends up being ripped off and built in Missourri. No wonder Mark Twain left. Still got some good mexican restraunts.

I germ in a wet coffee filter. Then i put the filter in a plastic bag with a black plate on the top and bottom. lastly i put the plate on my cable box for warmth. never had an issue. Also attitude seeds only distributes seeds for seed companies. Dont blame them.

Its always the way man, last time i popped 9 thinking ok, maybe only 6 will come threw and all 9 popped!

The last time i just did 6 and only 3 went so had to pop more!
