Does anyone know how to reduce the roaring noise of a duct inlet to make it more quiet?

You could try a sliencer.
I have a small piece of acoustic ducting which when all hooked up to the fan and filter only makes a very light whooshing noise.
My fan and cab is small though and i presume you're using a more powerfull fan.

I've seen silencers in grow shops and have a friend who uses them. I quizzed him about it and got this reply

It's a flexible silencer... The silencers work amazingly well... deadening the noise down from sounding like a dyson vacuum at full pelt to something much more liveable with... My pc cooling fan is almost as noisy...

Hope that helps a little

All the best

I assume your using a inline fan. You can try getting a variable speed controller. You would be surprised how much quieter it is at half speed.

I think it may be sorted

I have just rerouted the chuffer
