No truly outside autos

I have been thinking about this all year as I watched these high dollar seeds wither and die or be so stunted as to give maybe a 1/4 oz.How has this come to be?The photos and the rudirales need no inside componate to their life cycle, so why are their offspring so delicate? Here is what I think happened. Years ago I had a fantastic outside only afgan that would kill the grass around it by out competing it! Yet if you brought it inside you got nothing . It would not thrive indoors. So let's think back to when the forfathers of our tribe first started joining rudirales to photos. I think this was all done inside . In this envirement the rugged outside gene would have been selected against by the breeder. Right? That outside only gene would have been considered a fault to be bred against! So from the very start this inside only trait was chosen for, thus explaining the current situation.Since no one else here or anywhere I know of is talking about this gene, I am naming it the "Uber Gene" and am making it my first trait chosen for in my future generations. I think it lies there hidden in the auto gene pool.

i grew autos outdoors this year...they all did awesome!!...everyone of them had at least 2oz...some more...i had a few that stunted because of early ph issues...all in all they did way better than i expected!..it's all about how much direct sunlight you can give them IMO...:D...:smokebuds:

But did you start them inside first? If not I would love to know what strain and it will go in the next round of crosses I make.

there is no "outside" gene...lol There is and can be acclimatized strains. and there is outdoor breed seeds and indoor breed seeds. And there are breeders who shop there work out and get junk results that they sell, because of greed, very common. An improper F2 or F3,4,5, can have a greatly reduced yield by no selection, which is what you get by having someone else make your beans for resale.

I had to start some where so I bought the best that could find online. So are there any outside only autos out there?

everything was started outside from seed...DP Think Different,DP Auto Blueberry,Auto AK,HighRise Seeds GhazexC99,HighRise Seeds Auto C99,and Mossy's Dragons Blood....they're all in the thread in my sig.:D....:smokebuds:

I stand corrected. Then I guess I was treating them like I always did photos and now I know that is wrong.I right now have a photo and an auto bed going strong and the autos only are getting 1/4 strenght miricule grow while the photos are getting full dose and ammonia nitrate, so of course the photos are leaving the autos behind.I would have wasted too much thought on this subject if not for the great growers here. thank you so much! I will still do the outdoor seive to all my breeding stock.

Any autos will grow great outside, no doubt. Especially when they have perfect loose soil and can be watered and cared for. Put them on a balcony and give them some fertilizer, and you're gonna get a nice harvest. However, they are not as good as they COULD be.

One time I took a random selection of regular low low THC hemp seeds (the European grown food types from the grocery store) and planted them alternating with several commercial auto strains in the same plot of soil (I won't say which strains because it would seem like I am bad mouthing them, but they are popular ones that grow very well if cared for). I was planning to make random crosses of the most stress tolerant plants to make a strain that I could heavily neglect and still get a crop.

Anyway, the experiment didn't work because ALL of the hempseed survived, but ALL of the commercial autos died. You can say what you want, but that's a fact. And not only did they survive, but they grew into large plants that had ripe seeds by mid September. The auto seeds are great, but can definitely be improved for high stress outdoor growing.

On the other hand strains that are from say mossy are gonna have better luck out side because he does his growing and breeding out side..Ithink his beans are gonna be better acclimated to out side riggers in general because of the breeding enviroment..... If that helps any..

yep they are selected by the conditions they are bred in. i have a great strain that can't be stopped outdoors, but thats because i have selected for many generations from outdoor breeding. best to start with a few commercial strains and then breed your own from there to suite your wants/ needs. genetic variation to start with and proper selection for breeding is the key.
