Genetics: Seed Stockers Wedding Glue Auto
Container: 18oz Party cup a few holes drilled in bottom
Media: CoM Stonington Blend, amended with Kreher Family farms 5-4-3 w/ 9% calcium and Azomite. Hydroton pebbles for added drainage
Tent: 4x2x5 vivosun
Nutrients: maybe waste water from my 110g freshwater fish tank as an experiment, will have to blend with RO to obtain proper PH. Or water only with top dressings
Light: Mars Hydro FCe3000 @100% for 18/6( light is mounted to tent ceiling)
Air: 1x Honeywell personal fan, 1x vornado desktop fan, 1x AC infinity booster exhaust w/ 4” carbon filter, intake filters
Seed planted: 12/25/21
Root Riot planted into Solo: 12/26/21
Seedling Emergence: 12/28/21
So she’s just breaking ground but I’m calling it day one as I can see green. Upon planting the root riot was placed into a seedling tray with a humidity dome, and this was placed on a seedling heat mat for 24hrs. The root riot was then “transplanted” though there were no visible roots or shoots. Useless husbandry perhaps but space is at a premium as I ran into heat issues in my 4x8(too cold) so recently crammed everything into my 2x4 for the winter. I figured I’d rather the seedling emerge into light than a heated dark space, my other round of seedlings are seemingly a few days behind from cold stress so hoping to avoid that with this one(though the purplish stem has me thinking the tent hitting 59 at night may be detrimental)

She is short! I downloaded the Photone app for my iPhone and got the full spectrum led add on to test the light intensity. I’m not sure if I had my light set at 100% after testing or even if the light was at 100% during testing:smoking: but 383 ppfd should be pretty darn close to what the seedling is getting for light, maybe 10% more is what a Migro review says due to the inclusion of Red LED’s in my FCe-3000. Plus I used random mail paper to create the diffuser and the Photone app asks for 22# paper so I might be off there too. Lots of variables like always.

I think I might be experiencing the difficulties of an overwatered solo. Funny thing is I haven’t watered? It is the soil I got that was waterlogged but I thought it had somewhat dried by this point…. guess not. Seed popped, first set of leaves came out, and now nothing in 7 days. Seriously nothing:doh:. I flipped the cup upside down and pulled the soil out to examine, lots of beneficials I think or mold not sure haha. What do you guys think? I’ll let her do her thing as it’s not causing any problems but good thing I’m not actually in a comp otherwise I’d be dead last. By now I would expect to see atleast 1 single root if not a bunch. Pretty bad sign when the soil stays as one mass and not because of roots

if it doesn’t advance in a few days I’ll pop another with an alternative approach. And likely let this one sit until it dies or grows out of pure curiosity.

So I pulled the root riot right out of the cup just to see what kind of action was happening. And there isnt even any roots coming out of the root riot! Is the soil maybe so hot the moment the roots come out they die? It was kind of an experiment to amend an already hot soil in the seedling stage, lessons learned. So I sprayed RO water onto the root riot to “flush” the plug. Then planted it into fresh CoM seedling mix back into the solo but only 1/3 full so once it’s established I would pull it out and “transplant” it into the same solo with hotter soil and filled all the way. This seedling may never amount to anything but on my next solo attempt direct planted into this seedling mix will be my method. I don’t see a single root!

Severely stunted but perhaps a second chance at life?

This seedling was a victim of damping off. Combine the waterlogged soil with the low temps of my basement and this is what you get. I ripped open the root riot and this was all that was inside.

so I began germinating a new seed, this time extra care will be taken to fight the potential for damping off. This time I went with a moist paper towel in a plastic bag on my router. Saves on running the seedling heat mat for just one seed. Though I may fire up the mat once transplanted until it has a few sets of true leaves.
