Hi guys,

Hope you're all keeping well.

So I'm a first time grower who will be growing my first auto seeds over the new few weeks. Below is what I will/am be using.

Firstly using the auto start kit to germinate the seeds. Then I will placing the seeds in a 8lt cloth/fabric pot with a saucer underneath to help suck up water once the soil starts to. Dry. I will be using Biobizz all-mix. I also have some Coco fibre coir perlite mix if needed to add to the mix.

I just have a couple of questions.

I plan on using my windowsill as source of light throughout its journey after the germination process. My windowsill gets sunshine from first thing in the morning to until around 4-5pm. Will this be enough light? Or should I invest in a LED lamp which I could use in a cupboard/small space to add more 'sunlight'? If so which make or model?

Any advice on the above question(s) would be perfect. My overall outcome is to only harvest a small amount for personal use nothing at all on a large scale.

@Jay.89 :welcome:Welcome to AFN:welcome:.

Jay don't allow the run-off from your plants to soak back up into the pot from the plant tray. This will promote soggy conditions and salt build up in your soil. Invest in a suction pump and remove it. Use it in your outdoor gardens.

Whether or not you get enough light in a window sill is iffy! Autos do well with 18 hours of artificial light But if they are getting direct full sun it may be enough. If you do need to move it around for more light be sure to put the fabric pots in some outer pots to support them. Fabric can shift the soil around when you move them damaging the roots.

Thanks for the reply! What type of light should I possibly get? A decent LED one? What wattage etc should it be for my 8lt fabric pot and would I need a fan etc? First time doing this so I'm bound to possibly make mistakes

An well tended auto can produce 8 ounces or more at harvest but it all depends on the light. If you only want an ounce or two for your effort, you don't need the best light out there. I can't tell from your post if the windowsill is in a separate room. For a single small plant in the open, you're not likely to have any problems with your environment until flowering when smell becomes a factor. A small fan is a good idea because it helps the plant build a sturdy trunk and branches, which in turn supports bigger buds.

Thanks for the reply! In regards to smell, is there a way of eliminating as much smell as possible? We have a cleaner who comes once a week lol

If you need to hide the smell (and the plant) you'll need an inline fan, a carbon filter and a tent or some sort of closet to conceal the plant and contain the smell otherwise you'll smell the plant throughout your house. In my experience there's just no hiding the odor without filters especially in flowering

Yeah I've got a cupboard which I can store it away. Guess I'll need a led light and fan then. Any recommendations on what light to get? I'm from the UK if that helps.

Hehe, it doesn’t take long before you go from ‘I’ll just grow a small one on the window sill’ to ‘well I guess I should buy a fan...maybe a light...oh a charcoal filter too...well..maybe I should buy a tent’ haha :crying:

:welcome:

Good luck on your grow!

Get yourself a Viparspectra LED. I use a 450 which is great for a small grow - a couple of plants.
That could be the evening supplement to the day-time natural light.
