Hey there everyone, this is my first grow and I bought some Blue Cheese seeds. I planted my seed last week in coco coir pellets! I planted 5 and two have come through! I haven't decided on what nutes to use yet but I know that my soil mixture will be made up of 30% organic tomato soil, 20% perlite, 20% vermiculite and 30% peat moss! I will upload some pictures later of them but for now my main question is:

I was wondering if anyone has ever used the General Hydroponic Go Box Starter kit which includes:
(1) 16oz BioThrive Grow
(1) 16oz BioThrive Bloom
(1) 8oz CaMg+
(1) 8oz BioRoot
(1) 8oz BioWeed,
(1) 8oz BioBud
(1) 8oz BioMarine
(1) 8oz Diamond Black

Would this be a good set of nutes to use? or should i go with floragro and flora bloom and flora micro?

If someone could help me out here that would be greatly appreciated!

The second question I have is why is one of my seedlings' baby leaves are curling downward! I haven't been keeping the light too close, the heat is normal in the room and I have not been using nutes yet so I have no idea why this might be happening, Ill post the pictures when I get home later!

I am currently using a 430watt HPS bulb in a room 4 feet X 5feet X6feet! I ordered a grow tent and am waiting for that to be able to get them into a smaller space since that was the best i could do for the moment!

I have been watering them twice a day when I feel the coco pellets have dried up!

Welcome

Hi zlavigne43 and Welcome to the AFN family :styles rasta:

Now, im a coco grower, so i think il let the hint/tips about soil growing for some other members ;D

Pictures are at GREAT help for getting to help you out the best way, and also, get a grow log up so its easy for everyone to follow/help you out.

"new growers forum" would be a great place to start .

Leafs curving down? hum, are you watering them alot?

edit: heat issues will cause the leafs edges to curv up

Welcome to AFN zlavigne43, glad to have you join us! I have never used the GO line but can tell you that the Flora series is excellent so I would assume that same of their organic line. On your second question, maybe a bit too wet in the soil but is really difficult to tell without a lot more info.

Welcome Aboard :High 5:

:styles rasta: I use parts of gen organics. Really the go box has a lot of stuff you don't need. Grow, Bloom, and biobud are all you really need. They work great. I still use those three mixed in with my nute mix. Depending on the water and soil you use maybe some cal-mag. :peace:

Pics...!

I have been using go box for almost a year and really like it.No need to worry about ph.I use everything in the kit according to the feed schedules.

I've personally used General Hydroponics General Organics (the GO Box) on two grows (three photos and 23+ autos,) both documented here on AFN. I think the General Organics line is really good; I've had a lot of great success with them and there are some benefits to using organic nutes (plus you feel all warm and fuzzy when you can say you're growing with organics or mostly organic.)

Here are just a few of my personal observations from using it:

I would highly recommend reading up on the feeding schedule depending on which line you go with (GO or Flora.) I read on various forums that it's harder to nutrient burn plants with organic nutes. I single handedly proved that wrong haha!
Here's the general link to General Hydroponic's feeding schedules for their nute line-up:
http://generalhydroponics.com/site/index.php/resources/feeding_schedule/

Here is the feeding schedule for the GO line-up specifically:
http://generalhydroponics.com/site/gh/docs/feeding_sched/GO-Feedchart.pdf

I would recommend starting out at 1/4 the amounts listed on those feeding schedules when you are starting out with them and work your way up to 1/2 strength to 3/4 or full strength. This gives your plants some time to adjust and gives you some time to see how they are reacting to them. It's a lot easier to "up the dosage" then it is to repair the damage already done; remember that.

Just a person quip about the GO Box; I found myself barely using some of the nutes (humic acid) while using a LOT of other nutes (CaMg) and the BioThrive Grow & Bloom. Depending on the number of plants you have; I would suggest trying out the box first to see if you like the nutrient line-up. If you do; they sell larger volume bottles individually (of every single nute in the line-up,) so it may be more cost effective to go with larger jugs of the nutes once you see how much you are using and in what ratios. Your wallet will thank you after you do the math on the cost of a few GO Boxes piling up.

Also, the cold processed squid smells INCREDIBLY bad. Do not, I repeat, no matter HOW TEMPTING for some WEIRD REASON you have to think you should stick your nose up to the bottle opening, do NOT take a deep inhale off that squid. I'm not saying I did it. But. I may have done it. Plus, be careful when you pour it into your watering can. I found a thumb sized piece of squid tentacle, sucker pods and all, crammed into the spout of my 1 gallon can. They aren't playing around.

I'm actually making the switch over to Advanced Nutrients Perfect pH series; I have no real beefs with the GO Box but I wanted to see how the other side of the fertilizer fence looks.

Best of luck to you!
