New Grower! Have questions!

Hey Everyone!

So ive decided to grow for the first time. Invested in some equipment, got the seeds, germinated. I am growing Sour Diesel auto flower. They are growing really fast. Im on day 28.

Question is: Should I be pruning. I have some HUGE fan leaves im a little concerned about. 3 of 4 plants are really tall, but one is shorter, and seems to be growing more closer to the stem than outwards. Its really strange. Just worried that some stems not getting the light they need.

You don't need to prune anything. The leaves act as solar panels absorbing light for photosynthesis. Once you are in flower you might consider pruning but only to expose bud sites to more light.

There is never a need to cut off a healthy leaf, unless cutting it off would allow more total light to be absorbed by the plant.
Even those bottom fan leaves feed upper colas.
Certainly the closer a leaf is to a cola, the more it will feed the cola, but those big fan leaves are important.

Your future actions will be better if you learn how the plants grow.
I'd advise a bit of leaf tucking and/or bending the plant over slightly to get more light to the stem so that new branches can grow (Low Stress Training).

Thank you Simplicio. I thought so. I have been moving some leaves out of the way to allow more light penetration lower down the stem. Next batch I will be LST for sure.

Besides those leaves storing nutrients for the plant they also store water and I feel that should you fall behind on watering they could just provide enough resources to keep a plant alive for just a little longer for you to realize and catch your mistake.

I vote keep them but maybe tug them under to expose bud sites.

They aren't flowering yet, training would only improve yields. It will open and level your canopy. The more surface area that can receive light on your canopy the better. If they get bushy and nodes are blocked I would remove the leaves causing problems and then remove leaves below the canopy that aren't receiving enough light at that point.

Pruning the suckers in flower that grow below the canopy will prevent popcorn buds and allow the upper buds to focus on the more exposed buds. While the fan leaves aid in photosynthesis, a dense plant can cause micro climates to build where mold or pest can thrive. Some strains even respond positively to pruning.
