Hello I have a Small 60cmx60cmx120 tent I have a small 5” duct fan that moves 210m3 of air per hour using it as a a extraction I have it connected to a 5 inch kaizen carbon filter that is rated for 125/300 - 430m3/hr I am pushing air through the filter with both the fan and filter sat outside the tent, is It okay to Have such a small fan for then filter ? When I touch it their seems to be hardly any air passing Out the filter but my plants are into pre flower And are pretty stinky and theirs no smell outside the tent so it must be doing the job and the temps are fine as am only using a mars hydro ts600 Thinking about going to get a in-line fan but they all seem to be a bit of a overkill for such a small tent any advice would be highly appreciated thanks

You can figure out the cubic feet of your grow and look at the cfm rating on the fan. I like to recirculate my fresh air as much as possible, so if you have a 100 cubic foot grow you need a fan that can push 100 cfm to get fresh air every minute does that make sense? My grow is a 2x4x5 which is 40 cubic feet my exhaust has 300 cfm so I am circulating my air every 10 seconds roughly. I have my exhaust and filter inside the tent but I dont think it matters inside or out of the tent as long as the duct work is correct. I still use 2 6 inch fans on top of the exhaust to keep wind and air flow directly on the plants also. Basically the more air flow you can get within reason the better. I would imagine if you cant feel much air suction through the filter maybe the filter is clogged or the fan is not big enough for the filter. I use a 6 inch inline exhaust fan it is probably overkill but you cant have too much fresh air.. I think the fan added like 5$ a month to my electric bill and the fan with the filter only cost like 60$ Ive been using it for 2 years now and its still like brand new so you get ur $'s worth out of them. The fan I have has a speed adjustment on it which is real nice I can slow it down in the winter when the temps are low and RH is down and speed it up in the summer when temps are high and so is RH so it helps out a lot to have a fan with speed adjustment. Hopefully something in here is helpful to you.

Thanks for the reply mate just been to the grow shop and got a 5 inch inline fan and it’s made a massive different and it runs quieter to thanks for taking the time to help

Also can you have to much negative pressure the tents sucking in quiet hard lol

Hey bud real quick, I saw you created multiple threads asking for help on extraction; if you can try to keep things to one thread about the same topic, it helps the rest of the community focus in on that one thread versus getting answers all spread out! Just wanting to offer some helpful advice so you can get the answers you need quicker! Appreciated!

You want the tent walls to suck in a bit, that's good negative air pressure (that means the air following the path of least resistance, which is your exhaust fan.)

ye sorry pal I thought the first post didn’t actually post so I did another one , and the fan I have moves 450 m3/hr with my tent only needing around 80 m3/hr is their any benefit from that much air exchange or would it be better to turn the fan down I have a little plug speed controller

I like to watch my temps n rh n adjust the fan to dial those in best i can. I haven't ever noticed any negative effects from too much air flow except in the winter i slow down the fan as it drops my temps n rh too much.
