My Rso Oil Journey - A Stage4 Cancer Patient.

Hey guys. Well I've finally got my crop in, and I think im ready to start making my own medicine - At last!
Been using RSO for 18+ months now and have benefited hugely from it so far, so to make my own and be sound in the knowledge that Im getting the "proper" stuff is nice. Also means no more running out - hopefully!l when I did recently, my god, life was crap! It really makes chemo a LOT more bearable.
Enough rambling from me.

Needless to say Im after the cleanest/strongest extraction, for this I believe using Everclear grain alcohol will do. I also have isopropanal/isopropanyl alcohol, which is what another patient uses and recommended. Everclear is VERY expensive when gettin here
Would love to hear if anyone thinks there's something better I could use?

In any case i'll start of with a small batch. An Oz, as it's my very first go.

I'll be starting of with Northern Lights, that was a plant that I didn't think would make the cut, yet hung in there. Will also be making oil using a cbd dominant strain - Critical 2.0, for me to use during the day. Still, my tolerance is quite low

Will using the Rick Simpson method. Just have a few questions that hopefully you guys can help me with.

Freezing the bud, this will make the resin/trichs detach more easily ? After freezing, I just start mashing it all up? Have I answered my own q there haha I know im probably way over thinking this, but it's been a right old journey getting here!

Does the bud NEED to be super dry before freezing?

Straining. Until just now, I thought coffee filters would do the job, tho ive seen quite a few people say, there not all that? I should use a muslin cloth first?

Will snap pics as I go along. Thats all for now.

Long soaks contain everything fast, cold washes do, plus more.
My advice is to soak in 190 proof everclear for at least 24 hours with a bit of very low heat (computer router?) if possible, and frequent agitation.
You can boil/evaporate off the alcohol, add a bit of oil, and put into capsules.
Keep careful track of everything for dosage calculation.

Isopropyl alcohol is not food grade. Don't use it for RSO or anything you are going to ingest.
Use the highest clear grain alcohol you can get. Everclear works well.

Does the bud NEED to be super dry before freezing?

You really don't need to freeze your material if you are going to do a long soak. (freezing with the quick wash eliminates chlorophyll and waxes for a cleaner extraction). When making RSO, I like to get everything I can out of the plant material so IMHO freezing is not necessary.
The bud does not need to be super dry...You can use fresh material, decarbing will reduce some of the moisture and the rest you will get rid of during evaporation.

Coffee filters will work fine. Saturate the filter with your solvent (everclear) before you strain to reduce loss on the filter.
I use a ricer to help me with straining (my least favorite part)

I often combine methods of straining.
Nylon stockings (I like knee highs) help to keep the plant material together.

Rope and in this case pliers:smoking:, I can get a real good squeeze on without much effort.

What do you guys think about using a blender to mash up the bud? Saves a heap of time. So long as the jug is washed with the alcohol I guess.

If your taking orally, iso is not the solvent to use. If your making a wax/shatter to smoke, and going to purge down till it is no longer a liquid, & the iso has evaporated COMPLETELY, it works fairly well... but if you plan on leaving it in a more liquid state for caps or drops, stick with the everclear. Don't trade 1 medical issue for another!
