Indoor Moby Dick XXL & Afghan Kush

Glasgow, welcome and great looking plants so far. A little advice from a not so seasoned grower, if you don't mind.
The first couple of grows are always the worst, because you just don't know what to expect. It's just like having kids, parents freak about everything with child #1 but by child #3 the kid could be licking the dog and they will just tell the dog to be good. You are doing fine. Keep in mind that this plants most popular slang name is "weed", this plant will grow with even a minimum of it's needs met. The light distances, the light type, fert choices and schedules, type of grow material, etc..... is all meant to maximize the growth of these plants. I use soil, led's, and organic nutes, because that is what I'm comfortable with. I am happy with the results I have had with my previous 3 grows, but each grow gets easier and the yield better. So hang in there. I have 3 Afghan Kush riders at 56 days now, 2 of them are 24 inches tall and the 3rd is only like 15 inches tall, here are some pics for comparison.

Tag thanks for the advice buddy it's most appreciate they are some sweet looking ladies you have. Do you reckon my buds will get as resinous and crystal covered as yours?

I have the basic fundamentals too get me from seed too weed and as you say it's about fine tuning the process in between with regards too the nutes, equipment and understanding the plant when it's talking too me and telling what it needs. My biggest error on this run has been the feeding schedule...I started off too light and missed some important growth vertically I think. Also I didn't start the TopMax until approx day 35 as I was thinking it was for use when flowering had started which will have an effect too but that will all come in time. Now I know better I can try and remedy that on the Dark Devils I've got for run 2.

Also from what I can gather I shouldn't have lollipoped the autos but I done that mainly too make the feeding process easier because I misjudged the nute deliver I had lots of foliage in the soul area so I trimmed away the bottom fan leaves too give me easier access. I've been reading a bit about Tea and Bat Guana being added too the growing medium too enhance growth and quality of bud. Any advice on this buddy?

It's all in the fine tuning with this plant. Don't beat yourself up over it, potential height is a function of nutrient load and light height. You are seeing the results of not having the nutrient load correct, but lights to close can shorten a plant and too far away can create stretch. Again, a balancing act. I am also sure that by finish your buds will be just fine.

I do not use teas or other ammendments at the moment. I will probably start trying teas eventually, but I want to be completely comfortable with my current methods before expanding out. My soil is a mix of an organic bag dirt, coco choir, and perlite. The dirt itself has guano added.

As far as trimming or altering an auto. I trim leaves when tucking just wont work, or when discoloration shows up. I also remove some stuff at the bottom to facilitate watering and airflow. I do not typically train my plants so very little LST experince, I have topped an auto however, with good results. it seems to be a strain sensitive issue. I topped a Dinafem OG Kush auto and it took off. Bot that plant was a larger plant already, I wouldn't try it on ET Dragons or Girl Scout Cookies. Afghan kush Rider might be a good candidate, but It would have to be the taller stretched pheno, not the short bushy one.

The big thing to remember for your next grow is planning. If you clearly define your goals before a seed is dropped and have everything in hand and ready to go with a plan, the whole process gets easier.

Well lads that's the ladies at day 45 and still going strong despite my fears of making a total arse of the first attempt. The AFGHAN kush is more advanced due to a shorter flowering period and the nugs are starting too harden. The Moby Dicks are my favourite of the 2 and are sucking up all the nutes and water I can throw at them. Just now I'm giving the following per litre and would appreciate any advice with regards too this...

1ml MagneCal
1ml Grow
3ml Bloom
2ml TopMax

New pics will be up soon after feeding

Sounds good to me dude. Just keep an eye on the colour of the leaves the plants will tell you if they need anything changed

I'm getting the odd leaf lower down that is turning yellow which I just nip off but all upper leaves are a deep green colour and seems too be fine. I made a few mistakes so they will rectified on the next run. Can't get enough of this site, anything and everything can be found or asked on here
