Hey folks! Temps here in the Northeast are going to start dropping very soon and I'm getting a little worried about keeping my tent heated through the winter.
I'm still a rookie grower so I haven't grown in the winter so I was hoping to get some good ideas and advice from the Network!

Here's my set up:.
- 3x3x6 Tent in the basement
- LED lighting that only increases temp by ~4º F
- 2 clip-on fans
- AC Infinity Cloudline T6 inline fan
- 6 plants

Is it practical to heat the basement? You can put rigid foam around the outside of the tent and turn your exhaust fan down. They make tube heaters for inside the tent. I use an oil filled radiator type heater when I need one just in the room the grow space is in.

I too use a radiator heater. I use a two drawer file cabinet that is pushed up to one of my screen openings with heater inside. The inline fan sucks in the warm and toasties.

I have a very small grow space so what works for me might not work for you. I use the black reptile heater bulbs to heat my cabinet when it gets really cold.

I know many that swap between led and hps in the cold months for this reason. What's the average temp and rH of the basement?

I grow in a tent in a loft in the UK brother so I feel your pain. In winter I stick my 250hps up for heat along side my Skyline LED.. and get the benefit of heat and what useful light the big dirty HPS kicks out.. small 500w oil radiator on a timer for lights off. My HPS is scheduled to go up this weekend as winter is well and truly here! Good luck bro.

i use a greenhouse tube heater like this one it keeps my temps so it never goes below 22c even in the uk winter and it doesn't get in the way as its next to my pots on the tent floor

I appreciate all the recommendations! I wasn’t sure if it could be as simple as just keeping a heater/radiator in the same room as the tent - or if I had to install something inside the tent... but I think I’m going to try out the radiator method first and if that isn’t adequate I’ll throw an HPS in the tent during the day.

Thanks again guys!

How are you controlling your exhaust fan? With most tents, too much heat is the problem. Your lights only heating the tent a few degrees suggests you are constantly blowing air through, with no real control of the tent air temperature. Perhaps, consider putting your fan on a thermostat-controlled switch or extension cord, with the fan coming on at whatever temperature you set, pulling in cooler air, and turning off at the lower temperature you set. I have mine set to +1 and -1 the set temperature, usually canopy temp. of 80˚F.

I too am in the Northeast and in the basement and I was thinking of using a Goldenrod dehumidifier that people put in gun safes. Basically it looks like that greenhouse tube heater.
