MED GOM 1:0 : can an auto strain really make it as medical mj?
Well obviously there are some auto strains that really rock when it comes to pain relief etc … but where there is a BIG gap in the market is for an auto 1:1 CBD:THC strain. After all, if a loved one has just been diagnosed with cancer, waiting several months for a photoperiod plant to grow and flower is always several months too long.
Shantibaba, Howard Marks and me ..
The problem is, getting that 1:1 ratio stable and in auto form isn’t an easy task (I know: it’s a pet project of mine, and I’m a long way from it). So when growersguidetocannabis.com went to Spannabis last month I was really excited to sit down and have a good chat with Roberto from Grassomatic and Shantibaba (Mr Nice Seeds / CBD Crew) about the development of this new strain, MEDGOM 1.0. Roberto was very confident about, and proud of this new strain - a “guaranteed” 1:1 autoflower that goes seed to harvest in 60-65 days. Its cost several hundred thousand to develop, but I sensed that possibly Shantibaba was not as excited as Roberto was. What I want to find out is: are his reservations due to a lack of enthusiasm for and experience with, autos – or will MEDGom 1.0 stand its ground in the cannabis world. How does it grow? What’s its yield? Etc etc…
The only way to find out is of course by growing it out. I had had plans of doing an auto grow off (45 varieties: 30 breeders: one seed one chance to show off!) but this seemed more interesting to me. So I’m growing 45 MedGoms instead: 41 outside in the Spanish sunshine, and 4 inside under a Fero LED in a Wilma Big 4. First of all I’ll be looking at how they grow, pest resistence, vitality and vigour etc. Pheno wise are they fairly similar? Do they harvest at the expected date? What’s the yield like? And finally we’ll be sending samples off to the Fundacion Canna for gas chromotagraphy.
I have to say I’m putting all my hopes on this grow. I’ve talked to a lot of people who have loved ones with “that” diagnosis who are looking for information on what to grow to produce their own cannabis oil for treatment. I’ll always recommend a CBD Crew strain like Shark Shock or Skunk Haze – but I’m really hoping people will be able to get some medicine in shorter time thanks to MED Gom 1.0. As I said at the start, if ever someone I love gets the Big C, I want to be treating them in 9 weeks not 13+. Those 4 weeks difference may be all the difference ….

Roberto from Grassomatic: a big thumbs up to you too mate!
