Are you better off growing 50 gorilla style with minimal babysitting, or 5 in well prepared holes and tended to regularly?

Depends on your situation, my friend.
How much time you have? Do you have enough sites? Legal / security considerations?

For myself, I have no option -- only guerilla is possible here.

Larger numbers have the advantage of spreading your risk.
Not legal risk, but risk of damage from mother nature, for example.

Last grow I had on one site 8 plants in the ground, four in one area another four in another.
One of those areas suffering some external disaster and were all lost.
The other area was fine and grew out to harvest, along with my second site.

I think that guerilla grows can be done with a minimum of work.
Simple soil to start with, grow a little, plant out with minimum or no fert added.
Have to find good strains for this, but it's possible.

Larger numbers also mean you can try a bunch of different strains.
Esp if you have a new area to grow in and want to find out what works.
Do 50 plants of ten different strains 5 each, and you should find a strain or two that works nicely.
Same for growing methods if you want to experiment, can try different things to find what works.
Once you've found your strain and growing method then maybe move up to bigger plants?

Far too often, haha!
They are just down the road from me, can't resist!
Every couple of days.

I'm pretty lucky. I can put out quite a lot (500+) in a dozen water fed and highly secure sites. But I'm only doing a couple sites. Hence my question. 50 plant and forget with occasional visits, or 5 well tended plants in amended soil.

wow, thats a lot of space! Hmm... you could go for 3 in one spot, 3 in another and 3 more elsewhere. maybe even another 3. 50 would be a tad excessive I think. If they're highly secure and such, perhaps less would be more if you can concentrate on them properly.

Have you thought about large fabric pots with amended soil? 100l? 200l? you can bury them in a half way, and get some chicken wire, make a nice circle fence around the outside of the pot. Keep the chicken wire about chest high (depending on the size of the animals out there) and later on replace the top parts with a more open wire for your lady to grow through. This will help with support, for that extra large growth and yield.

Strain wise, amplify this with large sativas. A cross strain often grows bigger. And remember, these babies will take long! I've seen my friends old man continuously harvest 1.5-18 kgs per plant. he had grown the strain for years and crossed it with some african sativas locally. Never seen anyone else do it, even with his seeds! When he passed, he had left a plant to each child. they smoked for years. still have some today haha!

long story short, i reckon around 10 bigger plants, with a living soil, earth worms, even put fish heads towards the bottom the likes. Your sites and security give you enough reason to go huge on a few! I wish you best of luck in your endeavour, sending you all the best vibes brother
