Male Selection (Russian Rocket Fuel)

Hello! I am trying to select which male to keep, and which to cull. I have 2 (wow! alot!) and in the near future, I hope to have the means to grow a few out to test, but for right now, I can only handle 1 male without worry of cross contaming the lineage. I also have about a week before the first dude starts dropping pollen.

The earliest flowering male showed 3 days before the first, @ 2.86", and the later flowering male around 2.3"-2.4", has much tighter internodes, and more non glandular trichs along the mainstem. I am worried about yeild, and bud density. I would like to keep flowering time in mind, and I realize 3 days isnt much, but it starts somewhere right? lol...something tells me its insig in this particular scenario.

I am wondering, becuase earlier flowering male already has an abundance of flowerets, along the mainstem as well, how that will translate as bud formation. I see one floret along the mainstem on late bloomer, plenty at crown, non dom crowns, but maybe three days will beef him up like his brother? I'd really like to cull asap....

Are the non glandular trichs significant?

I hope this all makes sense, and you guys can see what I am trying to get at, I'm just trying to weigh out what i find significant, and how that translates to female offspring.

Man i Really wish i could do them both out, oh well. Any help appreciated!

Some Close-Ups of your studs would be nice. I have never heard of non glandular Trichs. Have an Idea what that could be but I would like to see them magnified in pictures before i give my two cents.

I would go for the earlier flowering male. The Flower development seems to be nice and early flowering is a good choice if you want a manageable (height-wise) Auto.

By non glandular trichs, i'm refering to the "peach fuzz" that covers various plants in different amounts and forms. The earlier flowering male in this case (at the time of the posting) had less, so was a lil more "bare". It was really just me over observing minutely different growth developments.

The earlier flowering male has a few things i like, I'm about to post up a few pics. Today is deciding day, as a few pollen sacs has opened up.

The earlier flowering male is on the right. It is taller and lankier. Its floret density isnt as compact as with the later flowering plant. However, it's aroma is greater, though this may be because it is a few days ahead, and also, a few florets showed purple! i hope you can see in the pics i put up. it's not alot, but it starts somewhere!

I'm still torn, really hopeing for some advice asap. I like the growth pattern of the later flowering, but the slight purple, and aroma seems like a good place to start.

It starts with plant on the right, then to plant on left, (closeups are of plant on right ), and the very las one is my female for kicks.

I like the more compact plant better because of the shorter internodes and nicer flower clusters. In most close cases i would go for the better smelling one but thats a tough call. Trust your gut. It all depends on what you want to achieve and what you try to pass on to future generations.

Do you want a tall and lanky early flowering plant with a good flavor/odor
- male b is your choice shes likely to pass that on.

If you want a stout slightly later blooming plant with nice bud formation (she could get a nice flavor later on)
- your best try would probably be male a

Maybe there are some of the more seasoned Breeders available later on to enlighten us with their insights.

Anyway good luck and may the next generation surpass what you wish for!

Thanks! I'm almost wondering if i breed out the lankier one, if i will get a few short phenos that show through..and just breed out the lanky-ness. but in that case, it's prob better to add in flavor to a good growth patterned plant right? Just a theory, i appreciate your help!

My pleasure. Let us know which one got to score in the end!:D

Killed off number #4, the later flowering pheno. It opened up, and I was still questioning, so down it went. This second one has a much nicer growth pattern that the early.

Thanks for the advice!
