Making CS the Bob_B1tch1n way

i dont wipe mine until after the first 6 hrs (approx) , the main culprit for a dark/blackish solution is light

light degrades it , some say it even degrades the wires themselves and always store the wires in the dark

peace

Also pop can't tell for sure but it looks like the lid is touching the alligator clips touching the wires, hopefully you didn't get. Particles of the lid in the mix as well... I find a couple of piece of electrical tape over the holes (push wire through the tape) is a quick fix, have actually found using the container the margarine comes in to work the best , makes a nice lid....

You want NO metal on metal except for your power supply connecting to your silver wires. Any metal that touches the wires will have electricity running through it and you'll get "extra" ions in your end product you do not want.

When I made the lid, I drilled 3 large holes. One the air hose fits in tightly. I then cut the plastic top out of a cottage cheese lid and taped it to the lid with packing tape. I then drilled a hole thru the plastic, slightly smaller than the wire and centered over the larger holes. so, my top is insulated.

I tested the cs water this morning, i got 49ppm with a 10 hour run. I filtered the water thru a coffee filter, that I washed with distilled water first. The solution looks pretty good now. I saved it to a dark container, but I'm making another batch anyway, not like its costing me much. I re-washed everything with distilled water before starting a new batch. so about 1pm I should have another batch.

reposting this just incase you missed it

"the main culprit for a dark/blackish solution is light

light degrades it"

and it does it very quickly , quick enough you notice it way before the batch is done being made

Thanks Bob! Yep I got the jar covered this time. Also got a dark green bottle fr storage.

Ok, well the jar being in the dark didn't make much difference. The water is still tinted a bit towards black. I'm wondering if my wires are too far apart. I'm going to re-drill my cap so that I can play with the wire gap and see what happens. Or maybe its the cheap ass airstone? I only have some very large "quality" stones so i may try another cheapy i have that's a different design.

i use the cheapest airstones i can get , like less then 5 bux for a pack of 3 , but i run it in a different jar of distilled water for a bit before moving it to the c.s. jar

the only reason i know of for a dark blackish solution is light , not to say that is the only reason , but its the only one ive ever found , apparently heat can cause it as well , but i believe that "after" its made , during storage

practice makes perfect , hit me up any time and we can brain storm

peace

Thanks bob, I'll do that. I'll tinker a bit in the meantime.
