I have had a few AKR's that have grown way more than I want vertically. My current AKR went from a fairly healthy plant to a long, lanky stem in just over a week. It's already 32 inches at day 31. It looks terrible. My previous 2 AKR's that did this reached over 40 inches tall and had very poor bud growth. This plant looks like it is going to be all stem, no buds.

If it is stretching I don't know why it's happening. All my plants get pleanty of light and are never far from it. I have grown 12 AKR's and 3 have done this despite my efforts to stop it from happening. Does anyone know what could be causing some of my plants to grow like this?

Plants: Afgan Kush Ryder (WOS)
Soil: Ocean Forest W/15% Perlite
Lights: 400 Watt HPS, 200 DL CFL, 4 X 55 Watt DL CFL (19 - 5) In 2 X 4 Tent
Pots: 3 Gallon
Nutrients: Fox Farm (Trio, Kangaroots, Microbrew), Molasses. Started wk 3-4, every other feeding.

OK. Let's try this again. Here are a few pictures.

The first five pictures are the plant in question. As you can see the buds are more like spores. Once it begins to grow like it did, there doesn't seem to be anything I can do to control it. The second to last picture is my grow tent set-up and the last picture is a picture of another AKR that didn't have the same issue. Nine of my 12 AKR's turned out great. 3 looked like that joke of a plant in the picture. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas?

I don't think it's anything you are doing, they are just different pheno types. By their size, branching and bud structure they look to be more sativa dominant.

Which lights do you use for veg and how close to you keep them to the plants?

I can only wonder it's a strange phenotype you got with that batch of seeds. Have you contacted the seed bank? They might be able to help you out.

For veg I have the plants under either the 200 watt DL CFL or in one of the 2 corners (which have 2 X 55 watt DL CFl's). I keep them within an inch. I have a fan that keeps them cool so I try to keep them as close as possible. As you can see in the picture they're going to get both CFL light and HPS light. Once the plants are done vegging I move them away from the CFL's because I always have new plants that take that spot in the tent. I was hoping it was just the different phenotypes like you said. I suspected my first 2 plants that did this was due to relatively cold nightime temps during spring? After that I started using a warm room for dark time on plants that were growing too much vertically. It has helped but not for this plant.

No, I haven't contacted the seed bank. I remember reading that some of their plants will grow taller than others. This was in the seed description if my memory serves. Maybe that's all it is. I was just a bit suprised because the bud growth was so bad. Thank you both for responding.

Growing taller doesn't mean bad bud growth  I'd still ask them about it.

im sure it is cause of the different phenos. i just had a weird 1 grow like those to. Just a few calyx here and there nothing dense. yours are fat considering how mine had looked. I have a picture of it up on here. its weird. also remember how intense ur lighting is. the less lumens and farther the light is away; equals MORE Stretch....

Sounds like you've done everything right, so it must be just a difference in the phenos. When I've had one I generally get about the same yield from them as the smaller ones. The buds are always looser and longer, that's the sativa influence. Some of those bush phenotypes can be big producers. Jackal had an Onyx bush that produced 9 oz.

definetly looks Sativa dominant, you should be able to tell by the smoke really, if youve grown this phenotype 3 times is the high any different from your more indica leaning plants?

being a sativa dominant pheno is really the only explanation for it if the rest of your plants are doing fine surely?
