Hi All,

I am wanting to measure the lumens coming off my bulb, now there is an app for Android that can measure this but I am not sure how accurate the reading will be or how far you need to have your phone away from the light to get an accurate reading.

If you dial *#0*# on a Samsung device it brings up a menu with all the sensory tests and gives you an option to test the light sensor which is measured in lux.

I just want to know if anyone else has tried this and if they got accurate readings. I'd be very interested to know!

Here is a lux reading via the *#0*# menu at about 1 foot from my 400w HPS bulb from my Samsung S6.

Cool deal!!!!

Will definitely be using this if it helps me grow. What is lumens used for practically??

I've played around with some of those apps, and they're okay for making relative comparisons but don't put too much faith in the readings being even close to scientifically accurate. It's not the apps fault, it's just that the cameras aren't actually the right sensors for measuring lux. Especially not for leds, there's even specific lux meters just for leds. Still can be helpful and fun to mess with though!

I think it depends on the phone. My S6 Edge has a light sensor separate from the camera.
