Update nr. 2 - day 7 from sprouting - Polarlight#3

So I still got my girl in the temporary location and could not be unhappier, hate growing my medication this way but thankfully the carpenter comes tomorrow to finish the floor upstairs so I can put together the cabinet that is right now waiting in couple of pre-build parts and put it together as its to large to move up the stairs put together

So right now this is what she is going through

env. temp: 24-31 c / 78-87 f
Res. temp: shameful (16 to 28) depending on how long since I put in a frozen bottle of water
ppm: 560

She seams to be doing alright though, She dropped the taproot through the net pot and then headed back in to the pot :/

Dont really remember seeing that happen before so I have mixed emotion about it, but as always I am aiming for root mass so lets hope that it works out when I move her in the week to her future home where air exchange and location is going to keep the tote much cooler, also I got some water pumps, extra totes and other stuff to build something to help cool down the res. water

IMG_3753.jpg3dayold.jpg

But at 7 day old from sprouting she seams to be doing alright and I put the picture from my first post where she is 3 day old to compare, I was worried she was stretching to much but then she has been putting on alright amount of body so maybe I should not worry

I plan on updating every 7 days or each Sunday so lets see if next weekend we are going to be seeing her in the new home ;)

Now I am not sure if its Polarlight 2 or 3 :P

well, it looks like a really well planned grow. Best of luck with it all :-)

Update nr. 3 - day 13 from sprouting - Polarlight#3

So this is not really a plant update because I will normally be having those on Sundays but as I am going to be away tomorrow and not yet fully done with the cabinet this is just a cabinet build update

3.jpg So I been trying to figure out the "silent" fan idea, my dreams of building a 4 sided box that I would drill in the ceiling of the cabinet are dead as I cant dampen the vibration, going with a fully enclosed fan box hanging from the ceiling of the cabinet in rubber bands instead
2.jpg but otherwise the sound muffler is working fantastic, its a 3 cm thick sound insulation foam for speakers that is inserted into a 12,5 cm wide plastic pipe, first I wanted to have it leading out the back but that was not long enough to muffle the sound so I am going for a second 90 degree angle and blowing the air out the side of the cabinet, the walls of the cabinet are insulated with mineral wool

1.jpggoing to be spending Monday cutting the last of the exit vent pipes, getting the piece of wood I need to finish off the fan box and the part I hate the most .... making the bloody doors
4.jpg
here we can see it stand in its place, even my mother-in-law tongue is jealous if this fantastic micro plant home

So what is left to do;

make the doors
insulate the back and last plywood panel
finish fan box and ventilation
drill the holes in the cabinet floor (already made the inside ready and drilled holes in the bottom)
drill in the light/smell blockers on the sides for the doors to rest on when they are closed (expanding foam strips)
lead in the electric wiring and put up the mylar
hang up the fan-box, ventilation, lights, air pump
put in the plant in its new home

curse yourself and buy a aquarium to block out the noise you never going to get rid off

but either I post a update with it finished Mon/Tuesday or just continue on next Sunday

Best of luck, but why dwc in such a small cabinet? Going small go soil, or going big go dwc. A micro dwc is like a oxymoron. ?...

Problem is I am a DWC freak and hard to chance, I am also going with a really big tote for it because I like the stability of the water so even though that mini cabinet is small it still has a meter wide and 60 cm deep so I am going to spread her out with LST and see how that goes, if not then I can get small buckets and convert the dwc tote into a resivor for 3 small buckets

Going to dream big and then scale back .. just like life it self :D

Ok, to install hinges, mark around them with a sharp pencil where you want to place them. Measure the thickness of the hinges, and carefully chisel out for the hinges. Real easy job, time consuming though.

Any more help, just holler.

Peace.

Brilliant thanks, should I chisel the doors first, fit hinges and then make a stave to mark out where door will fit on the cabinet ?

I am just so sure I will fuck this up, I design the cabinet it self to allow tremendous amount of error but not the door or at least not the hinges

Yes, do the doors first, and then you can put some blocks (pieces of wood) under the door to get them where you want them, screw in a couple of temp screws on the framing, mark on the framing and you should be there. And don't worry about messing it up, as you can always make the openings for the hinges a little longer if need be. You will do fine, from what I have seen so far on your cab. GREAT JOB!

Peace.

Overbuilt a bit!
As for your exhaust muffler. try a bit of that eggcrate foam in the exhaust tube. you can put it in long wise (all the way through)
and not significantly effect the discharge but it will absorb a lot of sound.
Rubber fatigue pads, they sell for standing on in shops and such, make a great vibration dampner as well.
And an aquarium on top of the cabinet will work perfectly as an explanation for the cab.

PS one of the best things I did to hide noise on my cabinet was putting a 30 gallon aquarium on it.
It dampens it significantly with just the added weight of the water, but also even a simple waterfall filter provides enough noise to provide cover for any background noise of your cabinet.
I have always found the burbling to be soothing
