The hottest July day on record hit the UK on Wednesday with temperatures soaring to 36.7C (98F).
But making light out of the sticky situation, heat-related memes started flooding Twitter.
Many Brits noted the melting effect the weather was having on them and TV presenter Fearne Cotton tweeted a photo of her wilting candelabra at home, exclaiming 'even the candles have given up'.
Another Twitter user, @haveigotnews, joked that the stifling London Underground was akin to a sauna with TFL instructing commuters to ride naked.
