I'm sooooooooo Hungry now.......I could eat a scabby horse....:chef:..

Northern Spain is often referred to as Espania Verde or Green Spain, due to it relatively high rain fall compared to the rest of Spain.

What we were told when we were looking to move was..the North of Spain can be as cold as the UK in the winter..but because it is not as Wet..it Feels warmer..so we came further south.
Right to the heart of paella country...:chef:
When we first come our town had a paella festival. It was on the main shopping/bars road.
They built a fire in the middle of the road..we were scratching our heads saying surely they aren't going to set a fire in the middle of the road..but hey they did.....massive paella pan..I'm sure I heard it was 10-12 FEET..
next day all the tarmac is all burnt scarred and covered in ash..but hell..it was a good paella...:cooldance:

Rabbit paella is the authentic area speciality...though most Brits prefer seafood.
We were out with Friends for a traditional rabbit paella..friend umped in a grabbed what he Thought were two huge mussels en shell and dropped them on his wifes plate...:yoinks:..they were two halves of the rabbits head..with brains intact....:coffee: ..luckily they have been in spain for a long time..so it didn't phase her...she didn't faint or owt

I may well end up on a train or bus,

Apparently the train journey from Alicante to Barcelona is worth doing for the journey.
The train line hugs the coast and we have been told you get to see some spectacular scenery that you wouldn't see by car...

Oops..also..don't be put off Tourist areas..even the Massive places like Benidorm..10-15 minutes inland and you are straight into proper Spanish countryside/farming areas.
We live in one of the biggest planned Urbanisations/towns in spain and less than 5 minutes drive we have our land and we are surrounded by Miles of farm land.
5-10 minutes the other direction we have the sea.
Can be Done.

Awesome stuff Mossy :D

One of the thing that I like about North Spain is the climate which, is similar to that of the Westcountry of the UK.
I like the fact that in the winter if the cold gets too annoying you can just jump in the car and head south for the weekend etc.

Another bonus Morocco isn't that far in the scheme of things and ideal for a vacay in the winter, with temps being in the low 20's C from November to February.

I love the fact you are aquainted with the rabbit paella, when I tell my Uk friends about it, they think I think I have the wrong end of the stick and tell me it is always made with seafood, lmao.

I have always had a passion for food and I also love to embrace other Nationalities cultures, I love to find out about the many regional styles of cooking in spain but have mostly concentrated on northern dishes so far.

There is a great food series by Rick Stein called "Rick Stein's Spain" must of taken ages to think that title up lol
In the series Rick travels the whole of spain and discovers it's amazing food and culture, this series is what made me fall in love with "green Spain" and lead me to research it further.

Recently I found a house with 3 Acres of land (mostly pasture with and orchard) south facing aspect.

The house needs renovation but has a brand new roof and chimney and is 10 mins from the local village whcih has all the shop and services you need. They even had good quality internet there too :D

The cost for this is £27,000 so I gonna keep saving my pennies, I realize this won't be the house I will buy but it does show that the dream isn't too hard to achieve.

If I wanted to buy the same in the UK it would cost a bloody fortune.

Hello Mossy, Great Info. The train it is then. I hope they are more comfortable than the British rail I took from London to Dover, The scenery was worth the pain but pain is pain. The view as we passed Canterbury was awesome.

Speaking of pain, I get to spend this holiday week end horizontal with my leg elevated thanks to a sneaky Black Widow that got me right behind the left knee. She chose to build her web under the seat of my desk chair and I had the cheek to sit and disturb her. (pun intended). I reached under to scratch what I thought was an itch and ended up flicking her away in mid bite so the doc thinks the dose was minimal and antibiotics should handle it. I waited too long to see him for anti venom.

She chose the ceiling right over my desk for her next site. Bad luck for her.

I had chosen Merida, Yucatan, Mexico for my retirement years ago but now that part of the world is too unsafe. If I like Spain as much, I may just stay and send for Mrs, Feenix and eat Paella happily ever after.
