It was Pepe and I have hated tequila ever since, which is extra fun cause hubby loves tequila. I'll suck it up and do tequila shots with him occasionally but I don't enjoy it.
You're not drinking the right tequila!

Caramba Tequila were handing shots from a booth at Street Car Super Nats Final at the Las Vegas drag strip. The owner of the race car loved tequila! I brought him a sample. He loved it like I did. The days testing was over and the driver was waiting for them to hold the driver's meeting. The owner and I were cleaning and closing up our pit for the night. I kept thinking about that damn sample. Very nice sipping tequila.
After finishing, I said F it and went back to get a bottle. The owner was sitting in his ridiculous lifted Ford SuperDuty 4X4 truck, the same he towed the race car with! :wall: "Where's your damn shot glasses?, I growled as I climbed in the sillyass truck. I reached into my duffle bag and pulled out an Arturo Fuente cigar. He didn't like cigars, but he liked tequila more. We were STILL waiting for the driver to attend her meeting, so I cracked the bottle. One thing led to another and we killed the bottle. It's such a smooth tequila! and amazing flavor.
It was 8PM and we didn't have to be back to the track until noon..............and we were in Vegas!
Whew!
Maybe someday that story will be told. It was a pretty much an epic "Guy Night" !

Oh joy another hobby to talk about! I love the intricacies of brewing, distilling, etc.. Hence, cannabis has been a very fun hobby as I can research it to death! (and still screw up but, so fun!)

Tequila and scotch are similar in that the bad cheap versions are horrible and the good versions are heavenly but the cost, phew.... straight up once you're past the rotgut versions.

I highly recommend Corralejo for inexpensive tequila. It's like $20 for the blanco and far better than any of the well known brands. Their anejo is like $85 but absolutely delightful on the rocks. The difference in tequila is astounding.

Fortaleza is another tequila you should look for. They have a "bomba" on the top of their cork. The core of the agave plant once the leaves are taken. I believe they are the only distillery still using a traditional stone tahona wheel to crush the agave.

Did you know:

Tequila distilleries in Mexico are all given a registry number. Just because you like a particular brand does not mean you like "their" tequila. Companies switch factories often, usually once a brand is established they change to a cheaper manufacturer. So if you particularly like something, look up the distillery number and see what other labels their product is under. You may find a hidden gem in a cheaper less known brand. The most notorious for this is the Sammy Hagar Cabo Wabo brand. Started high end, established cred and recognition, cheaped out, and now has tried to do damage control but has never been the same.

Here's a short list if you have a tequila fan in your life. Things they may not have tried beyond the mainstream:

Corralejo
Fortaleza
Siete Leguas
Clase Azul (reposado only)

Lol, we were 18 and it was what was in my late grandfather 's liquor cabinet, I don't think anyone had even looked in there since he died in like 1996 or so and the bottle was already open with about a quarter to a third missing

Hubby is from AZ and is *very* particular about his tequila lol. Our next door neighbor is from PR and is the same way about his rum. They are both big time hot sauce guys, I grew a ton of different peppers for hubby to make sauce with this summer so I tossed the neighbor a bunch in exchange for some absolutely amazing BBQ sauce.
