I'm always amazed at the outdoor cats, the barn cats on the farm when I were a kid I was always amazed they made it through the winters but they did every year.
At my old farm, I had a big grey Tom that was one of the first generation cat from the momma cat. He usually hunted with his mom and one sister. They came upon a rattlesnake one day. Tom jumped right in. Tom missed one leap at the snake, but turned and snagged the snake just behind the head. By then, with all the commotion, the other cats were there and they tore that snake up....literally! Momma brought me the part she had as did all the other, with a little taste beforehand. Evidently Tom had got bit. He went off to the barn and I didn't see hin to the next day. He was slowly walking around with a big swollen head. He wouldn't let me get close to check him out. A week later he was fine.

That is incredible. I was always amazed at the loyalty of some barn cats. Taking down a rattlesnake impressive enough getting bit and walking it off is the stuff of legend, that's one serious Tom cat.
