View attachment 417201I started my indoor grow career Oct 2014 with 2 of these 300 watt beauty's from Ebay sold by a vendor from China. They appeared to work satisfactorily but the didn't stay very long as it was right around then when I fell in the door here and started to learn something about indoor growing .View attachment 417206Next on the agenda was the Apollo 8 by Cidly based on some exposure here to their products . The gal at Cidly was very helpful and the company appeared to have been exposed to medical plant growers so I allowed them to determine the spectrum which they say they designed just for me .:tiphat: For all intent a purpose the product worked very well as I have 10 plants under this light as we speak . But I digress as the Cidly is down the road and enter theView attachment 417207Lumini 450 RI . Once again this purchase was made directly from the manufacturer in China as was the Apollo and once again the gal I contacted was very helpful and the company has worked very closely with medical plant growers and have established products that are designed specifically for that purpose .
All this comes at a price of course the Lumini being the most expensive but also is more technically advanced.
I must at this point confess to being an impulse buyer and a techno freak if you tell me it's better it must be so and I buy it . I don't know how long these products will last as none of them have been around long enough for me to find out and in fact the Lumini is still in transit .
I am not made of money and a lot of my purchases end up on Kijiji at a slight loss sometimes .I have made several purchases from Alibaba , Aliexpress, DHGate etc and have been burnt a couple of times but not severally enough to discourage me from purchasing again . The Chinese are smart enough to realize that there is a big market out there and I believe they have tidied up their act to accommodate the foreign devil.
It still comes down to this " buyer beware ". I know this is not a very comprehensive report on said products but shit man I don't keep anything long enough to be able to appraise it . :dance2: PS all this has taken place in 3 months . :tiphat:

DUDE you got some costly leds..LOL im about too get a few more and being here at the start of the LED boom and this thread its clear to see that china leds are commin up to a better level of production power and quality..SO many to choose form and all arent made = so just get ones that you see good reviews and results and let the others prove them self to you..for every crap light you buy only gives that company more money to produce more crap LOL I only get leds on PROOF that it will do what I want and will be fixed if I need it for free...I looked at the lumi one ..fancy stuff let us know how she works out.

Help me choose flower spectrum / small tent 0.9x0.5x1.6

Hey guys,

For a 0.9x0.5x1.6m tent I'm considering either

  • Cidly : Apollo 10 or Apollo 12

Thoughts:
  • Currently using CFL for veg. I think I can live with that.
  • Looking at spectrum more geared towards flowering/finishing (however not too dominant)
  • Swinging towards the Cidly as they have custom spec.
  • I want to get a light thats upgrade friendly if I move and get a bigger tent. You never know what happens ;)

Questions:
  • How much is too much?
    • I understand it's about lumens
      • Will too much light damage the plants (I know it's about height, but these guys all use lenses)
      • Cost/benefit : Am I going to be running extra wattage = power bills for no benefit? (Current grow is 4 autoflowers)
  • General opinion is the UV/Infrared is not needed however other sources says UV/IR helps for trichomes and oil potency (BROscience)

Spectrum's:
Below is extreme custom towards flowering - what are your thoughts?

  • 660nm = 6
  • 630nm = 2
  • 610nm = 1
  • 460nm = 3
  • 430nm = 2
  • 700nm = 1 (In the 700 range for IR)

Persinally, I don't even c onsider "custom" spectruums. I figure the manufacturer knows a hell of a lot more than I do about it, plus you then have to wait for it to be built and shipped.

I have two, stock 300 watt Mars Hydro lights and I'm quite happy with them. The UV may or may not help there are conflicting reports on it, and just how much difference will one LED make?? If I bothered with UV I'd by a separate UV light and get better coverage.

A 400 watt light would work fine, although a 600 -700 would give you close to max PAR and you'd be all set if you wanted to get a bigger tent later on. considering the price, I'd go with the 700 watt unit.

The apollo by cidly is is a wicked light. I have three apollo 6"s and a 1200 watt cob light too that is holding up really nice. The 1200 watt cob i got at ledlightschina on ebay from the manufactuer

Agreed. They have tried and tested spectrums. However I seem to feel the CFLs do a decent job vegging so tweaking it for a flower cycle is tempting.

Good point!

Cheers! Will try and look up your grows. Somehow CIDLY seems solid even though Mars HYDRO II is proven and supported by many growers on the forums too it seems(though I only post here at the moment)

Still looking for spectrum advice :)

Do not worry about the spectrum bro they have that locked down. I grew over 4lbs with six plants with the lights I just mentioned

Wow!

Finally I think I'm going with the Hydro II 700w

Hi everyone. I'm a newbie to the led world, and thanks for the info. I currently have 2 flowering under an Ocean revive 400 doing great. I burned them first thing but they recovered after moving the light up. 194 watts running. The Mars hydro 600 is next.I just checked the draw wattage. On veg it is 254, on both it is 383watts. A lot of reds come on when the flower switch is on. Bright? Oh yeah.
Winter doldrums have started around here, I wonder if this light would be good for brightening up peoples spirits. Seeing that I don't need it for a grow right now, tomorrow I'm going to hang it up and see. I have 1 woman,2 cats, and a jack russel for subjects. I love practical experiments! Stay tuned.
