Hello All! I am having a minor (or so I think) issue and not sure what it is.

Problem: Shiny, Plastic like leaves that are slightly brittle. also random leaves with a couple rust spots on them.

Medium/grow method: 80/20 Coco coir/perlite. DTW

Feed: and supplements used: personal feed chart (spreadsheet I made for ease of feeding. just input the liters used) PHed to 6.6-6.8 (AN pH perfect for coco won't let me go below that) Every other day is straight PHed water to 6.3 until 10% runoff.

water source: Tap. 570 ppm. 63 degrees. dechlorinated (set in open 24 hours or more)

Strain/age: Gorilla Glue , Diesel ,
SLP , (3rd week of flower, 7 weeks total)

light used: HLG Quantum boards. 1 @ 480watts and 1 @ 240watts. (720 watts total, from the wall on my meter)
HLG 500, HLG 260. These lights stay at a fixed hieght from veg to harvest. right now the average height above canopy is at 38". with the tall diesel being 22" away and the smallest being 47" away. most are at or very close to the 38" mark though.

Climate: 5x5 custom built room. 73-75 degrees steady at all times (heater and a/c installed, room is on its own heat/cool temp gauge and controls. as well as insulated room). 45-53% humidity. 6" carbon filter ventilation system which pulls in fresh air from the room at 70-73 degrees.

Additional info: I am growing 8 AF's right now. 3 G.G., 2 Diesel and 3 Stitchs Love Potion. 2-3 of the plants, are starting to look like the leaves are turning to plastic. Like a fake plant. super dark green leaves and very shiny looking, also getting a little brittle. none of the others are like this and the 2-3 that are doing are all different types. one is G.G., 1 is Diesel and it looks like maybe one of the SLP is also starting to show signs of it as well. They all get the same feeding at the same time. any help on what is may be or what to do would be awesome! I did look and it looks like maybe nitrogren Def? they are in week 3 of flower. Also the second Diesel is twice the size as any of the other plants and very larfy. huge gaps between bud sights and hardly any weight.

My last grow I had 1 plant out of 4 that did this as well. harvested fine and produced good numbers. smoked a little harsher then the others but not that much.

Lastly, are the purple viens in the stems/branches normal?

The reason the diesel on the far right (the tall larfy one), is so bare is becuase I am trying to remove the larfyest branches/areas so it exerts its energy towards the ones that have most promise.

Purple stems are normal on some strains. continue feeding bloom nutes and make sure you use cal/mag. Try going to 18/6 on your lights and lower them to 18 or 20 inches above plants. Also do not over feed no more than every other week.

The reason the lights are so high is because when I lower them, some of the plants show signs of burning. I’m using DTW (drain to waste) not DWC. So feeding them every other week will destroy them lol. My main concern is why the leaves are turning to “plastic”. I cannot figure this problem out, or know what to do about correcting it. If it is the light distance I’ll try to figure out a way to lower them.

I do use plenty of cal/mag. I usually even put Si and cal/mag on just water days.

Thanks for the reply. And going off your name, thank you for your service. I too am a vet. Just not that war. In case you’re a marine, Semper Fi.
