Leaukimia...

Morning all!:tiphat: Well, I`ve still not got my compatability test results back yet(I`ll ring `em in a couple of days, if I don`t hear by then)! Good news is that my Sis is apparently compatable:check: I spoke to m`brother and he seems in reasonable spirits. He was up at Addenbrooks at the beginning of the week(for a check up, I believe) and had no real news to report(which I usually take as a good thing!) That`s about it, for this update Peeps...:smokebuds: :peace: all!

Sharing one with you for the Good News krug...:smokebuds:

Glad to hear it krug..:smokebuds:

My brother`s back up to Addenbrookes in the am(for more blood/nastiness/chemo). Hoping it dosen`t take its` toll(anymore than usual!) Good karma appreciated all! :smokebuds:

Afternoon all!:tiphat: Got my results in the post this morning, it seems I have the same tissue type and may be a suitable stem cell donor for my brother!:woohoo:...Sounds a rather unpleasant procedure, but, not as unpleasant as not being compatible! Still gotta go through more blood tests(to check I`m not lurgied up to the eyeballs :brow:)! Got through part 1 though! :check: :smokebuds:

Hey Al, you`re probably right but, I`ve read through the bumfph they sent me and it just sounds `slightly uncomfortable`lol. Probably sounds worse than it really is though!

not to make it sound like an ordeal,but...the process takes several 4 hour long harvests hooked to an apheresis machine....
the sem cells are not normally free floating in the blood stream...they need a little push from an injected drug....injected in the arm....some side effects are uncomfortable but wear off in a few hours....
they will probly want to collect enough cells...maybe 7-10 million...for 2 transfusions...just in case a graft vs. host rejection pops up....
either way he's in for a very rough few weeks......keep us posted...we're behind you in support..

Thanks for the info and the support hereb(and others, you know who you are)! I visited my brother this afternoon(with my sister and one of m`neices). Told him the good news. I think it was like a weight off his mind, cos the info I got from my sister(via text, I hate text messages!:finger:) got lost in translation(she has not actually been confirmed compatible...yet!). I finally got the correct terminology for my brothers condition...Acute Myeloid Leukaemia(AMC), level 3(apparently the most severe version of said condition). His chromosone 7 is the problem and the reason he cannot use his own stem cells(if he did, he Would die!). He`s pretty cool about it and expects to start getting bad reactions, after his next chemo treatment, he reckons that should be in a week or two(depending on available beds). His count went from 0.12 to 0.24 in a few days(he will have it checked again next monday/tuesday) and then we`ll see...:peace: all...:smokebuds:
