Mephisto Genetics KiS Bio Char Mix Meets Mephisto

Good to see you around slow, yeah I like the kis soil, it has really good amendments and is cooked already. The soil I made from scratch and cooked is just as good, and getting better. I'd expect the same from the KIS soil. And can be re amended and reused for 5+ years, are you kidding me, I don't have to buy soil for that long, heck yeah.
Nothing to change, just got to dial in the re amending. You buddy will grow supreme quality with this stuff.
What is needed for re amending? The Nutrient pack? At what rates? Mineral pack too? My buddy told me he has Fungus gnats flying around. So I won't be helping him til he finishes this round and cleans. However, I may fire up a 3x3 tent and run a single plant in Kis Organics Biochar soil. I am so curious and know that I could do a good job. If the 3x3 plant does well. I will upgrade more areas to Organic. Yields are important to me. I will be using a 7 gal pot, with 5 gal of soil. Leaving room for top dressing if needed. I started a couple of seeds soaking. I am going to plant them in cups of Coco, with a starter mix. Will transplant around day 10... hopefully!

@Roasty McToasty ,@MrOldBoy , @Organic Sinse . Any tips for this Kis adventure I will be trying? I don't have worms and can't use them here. Do you guys suggest Worm Castings to be used in the Kis Biochar soil pots? I have to Drive 45 min each way for the Kis Biochar soil. So anything you guys think are important to have right away, let me know. I will be going out there this week. Thanks again for everything. Peace, slow.

I'm short on time to properly respond to these questions. I'd like to hear from Tad on this, @KIS . i know the other playa's you mentioned would have more knowledge on this as well.
When I get home from being out of town I will post up with pics how I been re amending.

damn @Roasty McToasty serious :fire::fire::fire: in here as usual !! looking forward to following along with more regularity again I got myself back in the swing just last week with the cooler weather as well

always a pleasure checking into your garden you are a true master :worship:keep it up brother !! :toke:

@slowandeasy - Can I suggest minimum of 10 Gallon Pot or make it a SIP Container like the one Sam was grown in ..... The SIP Container has a plastic cover which will all but eliminates pests as the plastic cover prevents those devils from hatching coming up thru the soil ....... If you noticed, @Roasty McToasty has plastic covers over his pots .....

Also with a SIP Container the soil will ALWAYS be perfectly watered and that in itself helps prevents bugs ......

Here’s the container I used for Sam .....

https://earthbox.com/earthbox-container-gardening-system

EarthBox also has a smaller 1 cubic foot container which is perfect for strains such as 24k - while the larger 2 cubic foot container is well suited for larger strains such as White Crack .... also know the larger the container the longer until the strain finishes @Organic Sinse mentioned how long his monster grew in a larger pot

For a SIP Container to work properly the soil needs to have a good amount of peat moss - here is a soil guide https://earthbox.com/approved-for-earthbox and if you notice Happy Frog is on the list but not Ocean Forest - Reason is Ocean Forest won’t wick properly due to rocks, sand etc but Happy Frog does work .... Don’t think I am suggesting Happy Frog Soil, I’m just trying to help you compare what soil will work in a SIP Container....

You can try using 7 gallon pot - I grew Gold Glue and 3 Bears in 7 Gallon pots but yield was 3-4 ounces per plant whereas Sam yield was over 12 ounces .... I also had a cover crop growing in these pots so you might want to get some cover crop seeds if using traditional fabric pots but a 3x3 tent and the larger suggested EarthBox would make a perfect match ... My next grow will be totally in EarthBoxes both the one cubic foot and two cubic foot sizes .....

Check this video out - This is a single plant, be it a pheno - in a SIP Container in a 2x4 tent ..... Same container I grew Sam in .....

I can’t stress enough how well a SIP Container will preform for you in that 3x3 tent .... You stressed yield and you simply won’t get a bumper yield out of a seven gallon pot ..... I believe, Stoner Memory, @Organic Sinse uses larger 15 or at least 10 gallon containers .....

Sam was grown in a 50/50 blend of KIS BioChar and KIS Original Soil Mix - I also mixed in about 2 gallons of earthworm castings along with 150 worms or so ......

KIS Shopping List:

Bag BioChar
Bag Original Mix

Optional
Earthworm Castings - Mix some into soil and use for Top Dressing
Mammoth P - Use regularly when watering per directions
WOW Pumpkin Pro Mycorrhizae
Nutrient Pack - Sam was Top Dressed with 1/2 cup After 45 Days - Not necessary but Sam seem to respond well
Kelp - Sam was Top Dressed with 1/2 cup after 30 Days and 1/4 Cup at 60 Days .... Sam responded well to the kelp top dressing and the worms will eat the kelp ......

There is even more I could add but as @Roasty McToasty mentioned a post like this takes time and no sense me posting more info, especially about SIP Containers and the like if you decide to go with seven gallon pot(s) - while you have the right idea you are not setting yourself up for success with only a seven gallon pot, yea the weed will be nice and you’ll like but the yield won’t blow you away ..... I want you to be blown away and super successful and make it clean and easy in that apartment for the grow ..... SIP Container will do all that for you and it’s so easy to water, no guessing or lifting pots ..... and with living soil you can’t let the soil dry out or it kills the soil .....

And if you listen to any of @KIS podcasts you’ll hear him talk about minimum size pot, 15 gallons, he is talking photos but minimum 15 gallons that is why I say for auto, minimum 10 gallons .....

Hope this helps - more questions- just ask!

Peace,
OB

^^^I use a 10 gal plastic pot with a couple inches of lava rock on the bottom. I then place a smart pot inside the 10 gal with its bottom resting on the lava. That is what I used for my 1lb Ripley’s OG. I try to get 3 grows out of these before I change the soil.
For years I successfully used 7 gal pots with lava in the bottom, then screen or fabric on the lava. then fill pot.
These worked just right for 1 cycle, then remix.
Cheers

Assume the plastic pot prevents the cloth pot from “wiggling” around disturbing the soil, yea?

Fabric to prevent soil from shifting down into the rock?

^^the plastic pot keeps moisture from wicking out the sides, allowing the wicking action to work farther up into the soil from the lava rock. The plastic pot also makes things sturdy.
I totally forgot to list that these containers have a saucer under the pot that holds water for the sip.
Here is pic.
The excess top of the smart pot is rolled around the top lip of the plastic pot.
Cheers

I've seen some pretty awesome autos in 5 or 7 gal. I don't know what the minimum is for autos but it probably also depends on genetics. Some autos are getting huge! I'm not a huge fan of adding worms in small pots. I find there's not enough soil for them to really thrive. In beds however, we find that worms will show up over time if you add good quality worm castings or they are part of your soil mix. If using blumats, you'll typically see a bunch of castings right along the soaker hoses or drip spots. I have some photos of it on my phone. It's pretty cool!

Interesting - castings must of had eggs in them so it makes sense they would reproduce in the larger pots so long as there was food and the moisture was right with the Blumats ...

EarthBox I used had 2 cubic foot of BioChar / Original mixed and I mulched heavily and often and the worms thrived but in the smaller 7 gallon pots, worms did not do as well but they were still there at end of cycle but less than originally installed whereas in the EarthBox seemed there where more than originally installed.

Worms still doing fine - Five months after harvest

How bigs the tote OB? I keep telling myself to harvest my castings. they have lots of food from the garden, rotten toms ect. When I do harvest I'm going to keep the clean castings in a separate bin, wait for them babies to hatch then clean those castings again. I don't want babies hatching in the tent until I know that I can provide a good home for them. Im eager to start a LOS project but my environment is not totally suitable, I.E. need more space. Be well Roasty & OB
