Hello everyone,

I am looking to start my next grow, and I will be using KIND SOIL. I will be using Roots Organic as a base media, which is suggested by Kind Soil.

I will be growing one jack diesel auto by Positronics in a 5 gallon smart pot.

My question is:

Do I use the Roots Organic Original potting soil, or do I use the Roots Organic Soilless?

Just a little confused as to what roots organic to use as a base media.

Also, Kind Soil suggested 2-2.5 pounds of Kind Soil and the rest base media.

Thank you in advance.

I plan on using this same formula on my next grow, the roots original & soilless are fairly similar coco based mediums but the soilless has less amendments.

Roots original has stuff like bat shit, earth worm castings, fish bone meal, feather meal, green sand, mycorrhizae, glacial rock dust, soybean meal, humic acid ect.

The roots soilless is lightly amended with a starter charge of organic fertilizers like bat shit, worm castings and kelp.

If you're dropping a hot load of kind soil in the bottom of your pot you can get away with using the soilless, either way you'll have a legit soil.
After researching I'm probably going to use just straight roots original with a touch of mykos in the transplant site.
Someone with more experience can chime in and let us know if roots original + kind soil would be overkill. Good luck!

Thanks for the added information. So, do you think the soilless media is a better option because it contains less amendments, or should I go with the original?

Honestly I'm too inexperienced to give you an informed answer on which roots blend would be best with kind soil, but my line of thinking is that roots original + kind soil would have a few redundant ingredients that may be overkill.

Thanks for your honesty. I was thinking the same thing, so I am probably going to go with the soil-less roots organic. @CreamGenes

Anyone with experience using kind soil, please chime in.

Thanks.

yeah imo I would not use a soil less media or lightly amended proprietary soil or coco coir.

me personally I would use the standard soil and thin it a little if your worried about it,with a small bit of coco.but alone should be fine and make a thicker base layer at the bottom verses using a shallow kind soil only bottom base layer. add to that KS bottom layer and equal amount of soil and coco or soil alone, then mix all that up and make the bottom layer as I state in my thread here if you choose to look.imo its a better way to use it overall. give it a go lemme know whatcha think. then you top the remainder of the pot off with the bagged soil then plug and/or tier pot into it and voila, instant easily easy grow. :D

Thanks for the information and link to your thread @Eyes on Fire

I am having a difficult time navigating through your thread. I know you made a bunch of different mixes/soil variations, but which one is grown according to Kind Soil's recommendations (without any other additives)?

Thanks

the one they like to recommend is a shallow base or bottom layer and fill the rest of the pot with soil or coco coir of your liking and they recommend coco loco and roots I think. any of those would do fine Im sure, and thats it. quality water and there it is.
