Indoor jiffy pots stunt growth

I tried jiffy pots recently just to try them and i found like zx12r i had a problems with water, either it wasnt wet enough or it was to wet.

Ah..I have seen this problem with the Jiffys before.

One of the Very First things that we were told about Autos was to give them plenty room for tap-root drop..and it still holds true.

Keeping them in a jiffy for two weeks is not really any different to leaving them in a two inch cube..you are only ever going to get a small girl.

I'm with Maul...I try not to transplant..and I germ direct into the compo.

just wondered if anyone else has had the problem with the jiffy pots (not jiffy pucks) stunting your plants? i seen those lil pots that are supposed to be great for transplanting but they stunted them bad. I put the seedlings in these lil pots for two weeks and then put them in 3 gallon pots, thinking that the roots would go through the the lil pots like they were supposed to but had two males and when i pulled them there wasnt any roots coming out of the lil pot. my plants are 40 days old and only about 16 inches tall with buds starting but my last grow with no jiffy pots the plant now(1 mi5 3 onyx and one that was supposed to be a bhd ) i had plants alot bigger almost twice the size. the roots just dont push thruogh those lil jiffy pots like they were supposed too.:bong:

i cut the bottoms off when i transplant

Jiffy pots are best suited for commercial production like a nursery or greenhouse.
It takes a long time for the roots to penetrate them. The pots also have to be very wet and decompose or brake down before the roots start to penetrate them.
I would not use them.

I do use jiffy pellets/pucks and have no problems.
I do cut the netting off when transplanting.

I too use the jiffy pellets, but just until the sprout emerges, then I cut the bottom out of the net, and place into a 20oz styofoam cup, and then cut the bottom out of the styro cup, and tier plant into a 1 gallon mayo tub. I have definately seen stunting using the jiffy peat cups though. I think they are too acidic.

I dont like the mesh on the pellets the seems to slow growth i have seen better results with root riots IMO

i harvested the mi5 and it was only 1/2 oz. and just harvested a onyx and it was about 3/4 oz. the lil pots had two holes ripped in them both it was like this root mass built up bhind the skin of that lil jiffy pot and form a mass like a plug and just pushed its way through. and that was on both plants. ill never use them again:cuss:

I use to start them in party cups then transferred them into their final container. I tried jiffey pellets and they do stunt growth for me atleast very slow growth rate. Will not use them anymore!
