Indoor Jean-O's Genetics Autoflower seed Run Finish

Jean-O, it's a thing of beauty. Could I ask what is the deal with hollow stalks, I have never heard of it. Maybe the plant consumes the center of it coming down the home stretch ?

jean-0 might have more detailed answer for you but alot of strains have hollow stems the skywalker haze i just cut down all had huge hollow centers like the pic above

WOW! That Straw Dog was a beast. Somewhat new to growing autos and would like to ask a question or two about your Straw Dog. How far along was that plant at 15 days old when it started flowering? I seem to have a problem with my autos being slow starters and not sure if it's me or the genetics I've been growing. How long did that plant stretch? Nutrients and water, how much does the strain like? What size pot was she grown in and what was the medium used?

It’s called “Pith Autolysis”, and basically it happens when a plant needs more carbon for photosynthesis. Fairly common and mostly only leads to plants that need support as their flowers gain density and weight over time.

Same for me, I've had trouble. Trouble getting germed, and more. I've got 2 autos that will be 5 weeks tomorrow. 1 is doing pah thetic and the other is worse than that. I don't question that I made mis-steps and so far I've refrained from bitching about the genetics because as a first time grower I just don't have the cred to bitch. That said, I've got photos that I made mis-steps with too and yet they are doing well and these 2 little autos just look...wonky. And short, very short.

I had my mind made up a while back the next time I have a bean budget again it's going to end up with Jean-O.

So the plant would have benefited greatly with the addition of CO2 to it's diet? I had ready about pith autolysis a couple years ago and was under the impression it was a hypothetical diagnosis but it does make sense.

The thing with supplementing CO2 is that you need to also raise the environmental ambient temperature to allow the plant or plants to actually use the excess CO2 in the air. And to be totally honest, I’m not sure if adding carbon in that way, as a gas in the air, will prevent it. I think it’s more of an actual physical lack of carbon in the grow medium. I know that biochar is a fantastic and cost effective way to add healthy, clean carbon to your soil, since you can make it at home fairly easily. But as to other mediums, I’m not sure what could be added, truth be told. I’m a simple soil guy

So the plant was actually pretty small at around day 15 when it started to flower. I use a 7 gallon fabric pot and have found that the bigger deeper pots have helped me with increasing the overall size of the plants. This strains mom had a very slow veg and is the reason why I crossed it to the Blue Dog because it seems to have a pretty explosive veg and early flowering stretch. The medium I used this round was Pro Mix HP that was on its 3rd use maybe the 4th use. The only nutrients I use are dry amendments from Dr Earth and Happy Frog Tomato n Garden and some earth worm castings. I amended the soil prior to dropping the seed and again at day 30 or 40 ish I did a top dress. I believe I did some black molasse on a few Sundays and a few weeks of flower on Sunday I feed with some Bio Thrive and some liquid kelp. One thing I feel helps with the plants is I water them heavily as soon as I see the flowering stretch take off. I believe I was watering 3 liters every day to each plant from like day 30 on through flower and I like to water to outside of the pot never near the stalk of the plant. I also raise the light to roughly 30 inches and keep day time temps around 85 deg F and lower night time temps to promote stretching of the plant. I kind of feel like reusing the grow medium helped a lot and I just started this round with fresh Pro Mix so I will see if they respond as well as they did with the older reused medium. IMO I feel like less is more with the nutrients some times. I really like how easy the dry amendments have made growing pretty much water only all the way through.
Im not positive how long it stretched for Im guessing roughly 3 weeks and it easily doubled if not tripled in size during its stretch. The biggest change in size I have noticed with the plants is when I switched from the 3 gallon pots to the 7 gallon pots. Also I raised my temps from the high 70's up to low to mid 80's and dropping night temps down to mid 60's. I run a 19 and 5 light schedule also. Hopefully some of this helps out or answers ur questions.

Well yes, yes it does. I've already experimented with bigger pots and agree they do help to grow larger plants. I use a homemade soilless medium which to the best of my ability copies Pro Mix BX since it's SO BLOODY EXPENSIVE here where I live. I'm excited to take your Straw Dog for a walk one day in the near future.

I think she will make you happy I just finished up trimming mine and found she yielded 182 grams! It didn't look like that much but wow I got 5 jars full of some rock hard flowers! Smells like some fruity jet fuel.... A super easy trim I might add one of the fastest plants Ive trimmed up in a while, always a plus in my book.... I hear ya on the price of the pro mix I think I just paid $60 for the bale I just bought of it but that will last me the next year at least if I keep reusing it like I like to. I really didn't need to replace the stuff I was using but I wanted to add new mix to my outdoor garden when I tilled it up.
