Howdy Like Minded Folk,

I found you guys while searching for info on some auto strains and liked the vibe, lots of info and sharing. I guess it's time to introduce Jake.
I started my first seeds almost 35 years ago and was happy to smoke leafy greens back then. Started growing under 1000 MH and HPS in the late 80's and due to aptitude/greed became a member of a group of like-minded independent businesspersons. Went down in flames due to laziness/shit luck, paid the fines did my time (really only weekends). I hung around the biz as somewhat of a contractor helping others set-up for awhile but ultimately met my now wife moved back to my hometown and had kids and sort of forgot about my dreams of overgrowing the world.
A few years back I was looking at seedbank sites and saw Lowryders listed. As I am just below the arctic circle (really Subarcticjake I guess) I liked the idea of small stealth autos and had followed the early ruderalis crosses with interest. 2010 popped my first Lowryders outdoors and supplemented my 'abit that winter, more orders, more strains, more seasons later and I'm mainly self sufficient even for seeds.
I've always collected seeds even before the seedbanks but my first orders from the SSSC were for Beatrix Choice, Williams Wonder, Hawaiian sativa and Skunk #1 crosses. Although probably not viable I still have some of my earliest seeds as well a 1000 more. All the new stuff (I still order photo sensitive types, just in case legalization breaks out, but mostly autos) is sorted by breeder in binders with an Excel spreadsheet, yep I'm a weed nerd.
Last year I had bumper crop and shared with a lot of my friends - no sales, just a bit of a harvest festival. For a variety of reasons I took this summer off from cultivation, which grates on my soul, as well as I'm on a break from the herb mainly because of my employment. It sucks but I make a fair bit o cake and even though I love the 'erb I usually stop once a year for 100 days just to give my head a shake (and make sure that I'm still in charge of my head). I'm not medical just recreational anyway.
I went for hike in early July and stopped by one my plots, low and behold a volunteer (female, automatic and in bloom, pics on my subarctic volunteer thread). I'm taking it as sign, I've still got work to do.

Peace
Jake

Thanks for the intro, AJ!:toke: and have an official welcome! :welcome:
Have a :slap: for greeting the folks!:clapper:
I'm actually growing out my first Skunk 1 cross, and even just starting to flower it's nose candy to me:biggrin:
I understand the work place thing.... I just this year found a job where the fear of randoms went away.

Hey there Jake!

Sounds like you might have a few tricks up your sleeve, can't wait to see what you get up to! Welcome to AFN, and take care mate :D

Well, fancy seeing you here ! lol

Glad you did an intro, and what an interesting one ! I hope you are around for the long run. We need members like your good self. So an official Welcome from the penguin and all at AFN.

eP.

Welcome. Sounds like you have some good knowledge to share.
When do you all expect your first snow? After the heat and humidity of this summer, I'm starting to think of snow.
Going to Colorado in September and can't wait to get up to 10,000 feet and walk in some snow! They had the first snow(a light dusting) at 11,800 feet this past Tuesday.
Anyway, will you continue using the MH/HPS lights or have you looked into LED's?

Welcome loved the introduction sure you will feel at home here.

Welcome to AFN brother. We have a lot to offer here and sounds like you have a lot to give back as well ... we also have a photography area here for you to share as many pics as would like of anything cannabis. Feel free to post them in the eye candy thread or create your own thread of your strains... don't forget while your there to drop in on the BOM/POM contest held monthly and drop your favorite auto this month a vote.. https://www.autoflower.org/index.php?forums/autoflower-bom-pom-competition.210/

I pretty much have to stick to the great outdoors and it's been years since I've owned any 'big' lights but I do use 54 w HO cfls to get things started in the spring. I do grow other plants inside though and from the looks of what I see here LEDs are the way to go, that and it's like 35 cents kw here (I did buy 17 and 42 w LED panels years ago but wasn't impressed).
It can snow anytime now but won't usually stick around until Oct. I think we average 100 frost free days which can be pretty limiting.
I'm still reading through lots of threads but won't have much to show for myself for awhile yet.

arcticjake, cool intro and welcome to the show. People here are awesome as far as tips/advice, and it sounds like you've got plenty of experience to share. There are tons of styles of grows here and yes the leds have come a long way, producing well and saving on that light bill for sure. I checked out your volunteer auto and she's a looker

Great intro Jake. Welcome to the AFN Family..............you have been assimilated
