Well I think both Muddy and Agito are correct, they are both different and they are both the same and there are problems when science supports many species but MJ is supported by enthusiasts. To be fair to all places like America are not only genetic melting pots for humans but MJ too - this has created confusion through terminology and lack of scientific understanding - I do not claim to be an expert but would like to share and ask questions, first I see Auto genetics similar to one of my other passions - thoroughbred racehorses where all the famous ancestral genes of the likes of Mill Reef and Nijinsky create the sprinters of today. I see marajuana as being one species and breeders who selectively introduce all the highlights of all the cream of genes from all subspecies RUDERALIS, SATIVA, INDICA, AFGHANICA. I myself am an avid Sativa supporter and was never partial to other MJ subspecies but the scientist in my blood cannot deny that at the end of the day when you guys suck all the medicating phenotypes and alleles from all these 4 families into one bean then perhaps my Sativa Gods are going to be relegated to demi-god status.
I cannot be sure myself so perhaps to help understanding what here is true or false?
1) Auto is a dominant trait and plants with 1% auto genes show auto properties?
2) AFGHANICA is simply a form of INDICA?
3) It is diversity that brings the genetic complexity needed for advancement?
4) Is CHARAS not a unique subspecies to be considered?
5) Wild Sativas can be anywhere from Lime to Gold in mature bud color and surely are distinct Sativa subspecies?
Now the F1 F2 etc of generations I can compare to the breeding of bengal cats whereby great breeding means NEW blood is brought in during each generations and there is NO INBREEDING as this bring out recessive genes that can be sold for high prices but purists can see the downside and so that said bringing rise to 2 different schools of breeder thought.
6) Should new strains be reinforced with the same strains or should different strains be used to build each generation (i.e. are we to breed to increase complexity continually or inbreed a "hybrid" for "stability") ??
Regarding Muddy's point about humans is very good, and we should remember that both MJ and Humans all diversified out of ONE TRIBE or SPECIES and then adapted through environment and selective breeding, his statement seems to support my theory of diversity, it also supports the breeding of thoroughbred MJ by helping us understand that "It does not matter if you are Indica or Sativa" it should mean:
7) you are still marijuana and that breeding a Sativa with a Ruderalis or Indica is simply INTER-RACIAL BREEDING between the same species ?
