Hello,

I soaked my seed 12 hours in a cup and 12 hours in a paper towel.

The seed didn't get water for around 10 hours or so since I had something happen on that day.
The seed lightly cracked, however, no root came out... I put it back in a cup now to re moisten it.
The seed sank automatically to the bottom.... is this seed dead or is there still a chance?

Hmmm. Could have drown it by putting it back in the cup. I would put it in moist paper towel and somewhere warm and dark and check it in about 6 hours, a pic of the seed would also help

Hey Dark, thanks for the answer.

I took it out of the cup now and put it in paper towels... if it doesn't show a root in 6 hours should i through it away and get a new one? I think 10 hours without water for a seed in germination process was fatal :/

Picture don't really see much tbh. that's why i didn't make one

The seed should have been left in the water until it sank and the left until it split open and you could see the tap root slightly. Then moved to moist paper towls and covered with plastic wrap and kept in a warm place until tap root is around 1/4 inch long then put into your pot about 3/8 to 1/2 inch deep.

I let mine soak for about 12+ hours and if they don't sink by then than I tap them. Usually about 95% of the time they sink. If not I let them keep soaking and tapping every few hours tell they sink. I have had seeds in water though for like 2 days that I forgot about and they still made it. I then put them in wet paper towel tell they split open. I plant when the tap root is about the same length as the seed pod it self. Also make sure the paper towel is not too wet. If there is water sloshing around in the zip lock or what ever your towel is in than there is to much water. Needs to be damp but not dripping wet or you will drowned the seedling.

But I read somewhere not to leave them soaked in water for over 24 hours... is this false?

Thanks for the tips

I have left seeds over 24 and not had a problem with it. The thing is once they split open they can drowned cuz the root need oxygen. I don't let them split in the water because I am afraid of killing them. I usually plant them as deep as the seed is wide from its widest point as this is how most other seeds are suppose to be planted and it works great for me. Usually about 1/8" deep. I use to plant a little deeper like 1/4" but have found about 1/8" works better for me. 1/4" dose allow the seed to shed the shell easer though I just don't like how long it takes to surface at 1/4"

Awesome help guys ... I think 10 hours without water killed the seed. I didn't see any change...
It's my first seed that doesn't pop :(

I put a new one now tried to tap it down but it keeps jumping up.... They have been soaked for 2 hours now...

Why does it keep jumping up ?

Another question: Is it okay to store the seed in the fride/freezer so they stay good? Also how long can seeds survive in the freezer?

Thanks again for the help

I don't freeze mine because if there is too much moisture in the seed it will kill it. I have had good germination up to about 2 years with seeds and after that they start to get unreliable. I just keep them in the closet. My blueberry was about 3 years old and only about 50% sprouted same with my BC Kush. I don't keep a lot of seeds for that long so 2-3 years is fine for me. Just let it sit over night in the water. If it still dose not sink after about 12 hours than place in paper towel and forget them for about 2 days. I have had them not sink and still sprouted them ok. 2 hours is not a lot of time to soak a seed. I will do it before I go the bed or before I go to work which takes me about 14 hours before I am home again. If this still fails you than water the soil your planting in, plant in the damp soil and cover the pot with plastic wrap tell it sprouts. Can take 3-7+ days depending on how long it takes to sprout and how far you buried the seed.
