Wrapping up this journal!
The jars have been curing for a week now, and I can definitely tell the difference in fragrance when I open the jars now. I am very happy with how this first grow has turned out. High quality buds for sure. I could have done a little tighter trim, and will be sure to do that next time.
Drying Process Experiment
You may recall that I wanted to do a test of different drying methods. Some of the GG went directly in the paper bags, some stems were hung, and I did a whole plant hang for the CP. I wanted to see which works best for me and determine my standard technique. The verdict is inconclusive.
I can definitely rule out the whole plant hang next time. Dry trimming the CP was a bitch. And though it took an extra day or two for it to dry and make it to the jars, I didn't see any noticeable benefit to outweigh the very manually intensive trimming. I have determined that I am a wet trimmer.
So, what about the paper bag vs. hanging the wet trimmed stems? The paper bag cured buds were dried and jarred two days earlier than the hang. I didn't find that the smell was any better than the buds from the hung branches. Both jars seem to be at the same stage of cure now. I am happy with both to be honest. i don't think you can go wrong. If you need your week quicker, use the bags. If not, hanging will work just as well.
Gorilla Glue [HASHTAG]#4[/HASHTAG]
Definitely the star of the grow. This plant gave me a nice bounty of nice frosty buds. Will have some in my medicine cabinet for a looooonnng time!
The buds are dense and fillled with trichs. In the right light, it looks like powder is sprinkled all over. The smell is becoming more and more defined with each day. Lots of pine, with a citrus backing. Their is the underlying skunk smell, but it doesn't overpower the pine.
It tastes just as it smells, refreshing and yummy. Burns smooth and leaves a clean white ash in my bowl. It is STRONG. Gets me high right off the bat. A powerful but remarkably clearheaded high. I can be functional, but very happy when I use it. I can use all day, any time, which is cool. A little bit of dry mouth after, but dank as heck. I have always enjoyed GG, and this is the best that I have had.
Critical Purple
Now that it is cured, I like this weed a lot. Because of the dry trim, a little more sugar leaves are left than I would have preferred. The buds are still pretty fluffy, so the cure didn't make them much denser. The smell is getting stronger every day, and has some fruit and what I will describe as a woodsy nose. Very pleasant.
It tastes very pleasant, with a little fruit on the palate. But don't plan on doing anything after smoking a few bowls of this. It is a powerful indica. I feel relaxed, mellow, but very very freaking high. I smile as I sit locked on your couch. And when my head hits the pillow, Good Night!! I just wish I had more!
Well, that's it for Pigskin's first grow. It was an incredibly fun and challenging ride. Growing top quality buds isn't easy, and it probably shouldn't be. I enjoyed overcoming the challenges I did, and am very proud of the results. The weed will only get better and better, since the buds have only cured for a week.
I smoke my own weed now. Yes!!!
Will be starting my second grow soon. 2x Dutch Passion Auto Night Queen using my same setup. Really looking forward to growing again. I miss the process!
Thanks so much for those that followed and helped along the way. I appreciate you!
Right on, AFN!!
