New Grower I probably should have waited until fall...

Came home today and saw the cabinet was at 105 degrees! That was 8 pm. I can only imagine how high it was st 4:00. The plants still seem to be doing alright. They are short, but otherwise seem healthy. The brown spots on the GG are due to reservoir water splash.

Was planning to change reservoir tomorrow, but it will be record hot in Sacramento... 105 degrees outside, so that means 110+ in my cabinet in the garage. Should I hold off on changing the reservoir due to possible stress. The water Chiller will take a couple hours to cool it down to 66 degrees, and I worry that I may be asking too much of the girls to withstand that and the ambient temps. What do you think?

If the roots and the plant are still looking as good as in the pics I'd totally skip the rez change. But those are the only things I'd change it for anyway so take that with a grain of salt

They look fine. They are pretty tough that strain. If you keep the res temps under control, they will be good. Good air circulation will also help keep down the stress when the heat goes up like that.

Thanks Mazar. Do you think I can hold off until next weekend with the reservoir change, or should I just go ahead. I don't think I will be able to do it during the week.

Thanks for the encouragement, MedCzech. I have two 110 exhaust fans going full time, with passive intake at the bottom of the cab. Don't know if I can do much more in the tight space I have. That LED takes the temp up 10-15 degrees easy, which is surprising because everything I read said they hardly give off any heat.

My grow issues are on the opposite end of the spectrum, my space will never go over 75. Lights out in the low 60's during summer high 40's during winter, exhaust fan kicks in at 74 and very quickly/easily drops it back to 73 as you can imagine. I mention that because my fixes or lazy growing style might not fly with that kind of heat.

If you have no algae on your roots and the leaves are green and healthy and pH isn't really changing then you're probably fine. The problem with dwc though is how fast things can change without any buffers and go south fast. What you can do though is prepare a new rez and put a lid on it, then if you're too busy to muck about with the water but things go bad you can just switch buckets on the fly. A frozen bottle can assist your chiller in getting temps right fast too.
Let us know how it goes!

You can quick chill the water with some frozen bottles of water.

Sent from my comfy chair.

Mazar, I wish I had some of your temp issues! Thanks for the tip on frozen water bottles. I am going to do that. The reservoir hasn't been changed in 10 days, so ideally, I would like to change. The frozen water bottles idea solves my dilemma!

It just hit me that I haven't shared any pics of the roots. I will use the res change as an opportunity to take a few pics.
