Hi friends, this is my very first grow. I'm in a 3x3 tent with a TSW 2000 light. I'm growing organic in 3 gallon canvas pots, using super soil method with the amendment from "nature's living soil"and happy frog

I think what I'm seeing is nitrogen toxicity, but I'm not sure, and I'm not sure what to do.

At the advice of Richard at nature's living soil, I watered them on Wednesday with 1tbl/gl of blackstrap.

Normally when I water, I am using tap water with just a little vitamin c added to 1, bring down the ph to 6.5, and 2, neutralize the chlorine.

I'm thinking of flushing them with a ton of water. Normally when I feed them every four or five days or so I am giving them somewhere just under a gallon of water each.

I read somewhere that what I should do is flush with 9 gallons each??? That seems like a ton of water. I'd love advice before I actually do it.

I was also thinking that maybe the problem isthat I'm growing in 3 gallon instead of 5 gallon with super soil, so they are hitting the rich stuff too early. I was thinking I could move them to 5 gallon pots pretty easily, by just cutting these smart pots open.

Any advice would be super greatly appreciated.

Parameters look ok. I would let the pot dry out. Then ph water for the next feed. Test the runoff ph and ppm out.

even though that’s not reliable for soil ph. Gives you an idea.

the plant should pull through fine. It looks good

If those pots are light and dry 1 knuckle down. I would water. Sometimes under watering will cause the look of your plants. Could have some nitrogen toxicity.
Therefore feed water. Determine the ppm out. If it’s above 400 ppm in the runoff. Feed water. Under 400 ppm. Feed nutes

@PerachYarok :welcome:Welcome to AFN:welcome: Yes, I see what looks like nitrogen toxicity. Happy Frog is in the infirmary a lot! There seems to be a lot of inconsistency in the starting nutrients. I personally would not use anything that does not come with a guaranteed analysis. Try a different base soil next time. Vitamin C is for treating Chloramines not Chlorine. Chlorine will dissipate rapidly to the air by itself. I would recommend lemon juice or vinegar for organic PH Down and Baking Soda for Up to get your fertigation to about 6.4 PH. I think Earth Juice has Organic Up/Down as well.

Back off on any added nutrients for now and see if it gets better maybe 2 weeks or more? I think the molasses is an attempt to pump up the microbes to produce more availability of P-K to balance out the N. I would add Mykos or other bennies to the mix as well in this effort.

True organic living soil takes time to make. Start the soil for your next grow now.

Thanks everyone for your advice and thoughts.

Tomorrow's time for watering. Should I flush them? If so, with how much? They're in 3 gallon pots. I've seen recommendations for up to 9 gallons ?!?

Also, I'm pretty sure at least one of them has started flowering. (Pics attached)

I have never added nutes---just water (supersoil method)

I so appreciate everyone's help. This is my first grow. Exciting stuff!

I'm seeing nitrogen toxicity as well. Dial back your nutes and check your pH.

Unfortunately happy frog is complete shit. I've never had soil kill my plants faster. Fox Farms used to be a good company, but something happened to them about five years ago, what I'm not sure. I got my standard bag of HF for my seedlings an up potted them without much thought. A week later my plants were all but dead. I PHed my soil at 4.4 out of the bag, Jesus Christ! The quality of the soil has been dropping faster than the PH. About one forth of the bag was gravel and rocks, another fifth just large sticks.

When I contacted FF about it they said it's not possible and to prove it.

So yeah, don't buy FF products.

What are the ratios and ingredients to your super soil mix? It appears to be way too nitrogen heavy.
:yeahthat:... and that's why you shouldn't flush a "TLO", supersoil, or "water only" mix, it will strip out the nutes and play havoc with the soil microbes... they are KEY to your organics, screw them up and the show turns shit-show instead,... you need inoculants/teas to support them...
Ditto on Fuxfarts schwag,... fuckers are clowns to the last!
Did you let that soil mix cook at all? I'd say things never had a chance between the soil and this "supersoil" mix,... the plant has been stunted badly... Also monitoring the in-pot soil pH is critical, not optional no matter what the others claim, off pH can happen with any soil! In organic, more important than ever because of what it does to the soil herd. They are the magicians here, breaking stuff dowen, cycling it, making it available to the plant for uptake in the right forms,....

Oh I didn't even think of that. OP, what's in your super soil mix and how long did you let it cook? The PH can alter over time as the soil cooks, so it's good to PH your mix after a long cook to see where you're at. Right now my accurate 8 tells me my outdoor 45 gals are sitting right at 6.3. That could drop over time as the soil cooks off, or raise as the dolomite and oyster shell in it start to be digested. I'm going to need to check it before planting to make sure I'm not lowering my precious into a vat of acid.

If you live on the west coast and are looking for a really good potting soil for seedlings/vege/base soil I highly recommend trying to find E.B. Stone potting soils. Ednas best is their basic soil, and 420 mix is their primo stuff.
