I've heard of the water cure before but I've never actually seen anybody do it. You think you could elaborate on that a little bit more?
So ive only read up a few places but heres the basics as i understand it. I could be very wrong.
Regular jar curing relies on micro organisms and chemical breakdown of undesired plant material. Its great. But its slow. A week ish drying. Anither 2 weeks in jars before its really noticable but a month ish is ths general agreedupon ideal.
Water curing is kinda the short cut. Instead of breaking the undesirables (salts, leftover nutes, and chlorophyll) down, they are pulled into the water. Thats why the cleaner the water the more efficient and faster one can cure. Since cleaner water can absorb more gunk. Its why the water is changed at least daily, tho im doing multiple changes a day using bottled water.
The other method was similar, keep bud submerged. But i agree with the theory that a constant slow water change would be better if possible... Fish tank logic. So i have a spare half bath in the grow room (convenient) so i set up the sink amd initially had the water running into the jar, but that hits the bud (physically knocking off triches) and ultimately only changes the very top... Solved that with the straw. Now water flows to the bottom slowly so it disperses and doesnt really produce a solid current. Causing a better mix around the bud and a steady water change. Yay.
Now once its done (the steady trickle should be done tonight) you hang it up to dry but you fast dry it. Mold is more of a threat. I read a lot about dehydrators or simply the usual drying closet but with a fan DIRECTLY on them. Quick drying is ok because once you're done with the dry... That is it. You already cured it. The cure is done in 7 to 10ish days.
Caveat: water cured bud doesnt have very much taste or smell but its smoother. This is the terps getting pulled out too. Now, this can be seen as bad. I do. But, with little scent it makes stealth smoking a lot easier. It also makes transport easier. Wish id have had this knowledge when i was a teen. [emoji23]
Since the bud is submerged, its not exposed to air temp fluxuations, humidity, etc, just keep it dark. The water temp is best at room temp (68-72f). So i use room temp bottled water and keep it in a cabinet. Uncovered. Some of the chlorophyll will evaporate off [emoji106][emoji106]
Ill try to remember to do a water cuer thread and better document once i have a method down. Just to have the info available to people.
Itd be cool to do like 1 branch/plant if it works well. Or just when im gunna need it.
