Indoor hps or led

I didn't mention THE 200 diy cob KIT mate. All parts for a 200w cob light can be had for less then 200. I've got some and thats what I paid. A light meter is one thing, actual results are another. Have a look around and see the results for yourself. It kinda feels like you do want to argue but thats cool. Cobs are hard to get your head around. Watts, PAR, lumens etc. But results are results IMO.

Spectrum depends entirely on what cobs you use and can be tweaked and tailored to personal requirements.

I run both COBs and HPS, so I'm not sure where you get the idea that I am not familiar with this technology.. I started out using LEDs and will continue to use them, but HID lighting has a lot of benefits over LED.. The only time I feel it's far more cost-effective is if you DIY it, versus buying a pre-made panel.. Not a lot of folks have mechanical aptitude or tools to even put together a DIY kit, believe it or not, although I believe OP stated he was leaning that way, so I'm guessing he would be able to figure it out..

Call me crazy, but I doubt the $200 DIY kit will provide the same PAR and lumens as a 600w HPS.. I know there are some folks out there who have tested it, but from the 200w of CXB3590s (that's 50w more of COB than the $200 kit) I have, it's not even close to the brightness of a good 600w HPS.. That's both anecdotal and by virtue of my light meter.. I'm not trying to start arguments; just going off of my observations..

I will also note that I will more than likely be combining the 600w HPS and the DIY COB Panel I have for the best spectrum and light spread.. I feel there is a lot of merit to using both since it provides a broader spectrum, not to mention the LEDs seem to coax out more trichs, from all of the grows I've seen on here and other forums..

its hard to compare a $200 COB build to a 600W HPS...i think if you planned it well you could out do a 600W HPS with around 300W of COB and i dont know prices in the US but i could out do that with around £200 so maybe $275...8 citizen 1212's at 1050mA each would probably beat a 600W HPS and you could get a much better spread over the canopy...ive seen better results with my 200W COB light than I have when I was using a 400W MH/HPS in my tent...i am using 8 CREE cobs though but i believe the citizens would match it easily...

Also the initial outlay may seem expensive so i think its worth thinking about long term running costs...for me running a 400/600W light would cost me around £50-60 a month to run...where as my COB's costs £20....over a year thats a massive difference...it saves me almost 3-400 a year just in my electric bill...so my lights paid off within the first 6 months of using it....

Have you looked into BigSm0's autocobs that are seperate cobs with drivers etc? If its just for additional lighting maybe buy a few of them to place around the tent...they look really good!

Like I said I'm not here to argue so I'll duck out

For the record no offence to you was meant and I was just adding my personal experience. Up to you and anyone else to ignore it or process it as you please

I'm just off to drive my ox and cart into town now.

I dont exhaust at all other than through a carbon filtwer when flowering heavy. low heat even in summer with LED/s hell Iwould have issues in summer with T5 HO's honestly sometimes. so a High intensity Display light? yeeah its gone be a HUGE issue in the summer if it gets warm there or you don't crank the crap outta your home cooling bro :) t5 in winter mmmmm and LED all year round :D

If cooling your tent isnt a concern I would go dot the hps. If it is a concern go for the led.
I agree with this, but if possible, the hps would be nice to get both types of lights going.
