After careful debate considering all information, location, size, cost to run, heat, and penetration levels of the light. I have focused on using a strong LED Grow light. I can't run a portable a/c unit like I did before in a different location, that is why I was looking around for other possible lighting ideas that don't generate a lot of heat like an HPS light will do. So LED's are the best solution. Plus I have seen numerous grows on this forum using LED Lights and they look great! I have mor epictures to post up in a few days. The four Auto Pounders I have growing are about 18 inches tall and each one has about 12 little buds starting to form. The three MIG-29 that I have are still too short ot show anything, they are about 2o days old, the pounders are 30 days old. Wish me luck!

You're gonna love LEDs, I know I do. Sending good grow vibes your way bro!

For yield, nothing on the market beats HPS. I have a 270w BlackStar Chrome LED and will likely never have a need for another light; resin is higher and I don't need to mega crop for personal use.

personally, I use LED for veg, and 600w of HPS for flower. I have found that this method is king in my garden!!! NOTHING beats stacking nodes like LED, and NOTHING beats flowering like HPS. Just
my :2cents:. On the hps side of things, you can duct it to keep the temps down and not be an issue. The LED will be a major upfront cost, that will hundred dollar bill ya to death, while bulbs and a decent hood will be nickles and dimes compared to a LED. But if ya got the money.....do it all!!! Pros and cons of each, but both, together, is 1 GIANT pro in my opinion!!!!

There are defiantly LEDs on the market that will out yield HPS,just look at Seymour's last grow he use 2 year old Lights at 300w and easy got 500gs. If you have 400w LED with a good spectrum there isn't much wasted light where a 400w HPS has plenty wasted.

Well, let me put it this way...dollar for dollar, I think you get more with HPS...if you only have XXX amount of money to spend and want the maximum amount of light, you'll need to look at sodium. If money is less of a concern and you want a great solution that costs a bit more, LED has you covered. Not disagreeing Tang, but I think that most people will see better results under a 600w sodium lamp (which costs a lot less) than a 300-400w LED setup. Energy consumption is higher, so I'm not sure how that works out over the long run...

Ah I see, I thought you meant watt for watt. I agree with what you are saying about cost for instance lets say we are going to do a big single grow spending ten grand on LEDs compared to 1 or 2 grand on HPS just makes no sense but for the hobby grower LEDs are in my opinion becoming the best option, but I'm bias lol. Peace.

Good LED discussion - mind if i chime in my thoughts

I'm a bit tight on the ellecy bills hehe and I like to work out the maths to see if i can save a few quid.

The equivalent GN model to my light 250 hps is the GN0004, which currently costs about £180.
I'll change my hps bulb every grow (£20 a bulb) (3 grows a year on average), so if the light lasts 3 years, it's paid for itself in bulbs alone, without taking into account the ellecy saving (which looks substantial)

I do believe that i'll get better penetration with LED, so my buds will be firmer and maybe even bigger, and the heat factor wont be such an issue in the summer.

My thoughts are that for a small scale grower such as myself, there are some real savings to be made and will most likely (from what i've seen) turn out a better product.
As with most people - it's just the inital outlay that is holding me back.

Its so stupid hot and humid here i have 2 240w blackstars in a DR90 and have heat issues! Tell me how bad i am screwed LOL

I chose the cfl to veg route, then added a Blackstar 240w LED at 12/12. I steered away from the HID lights for the cost and heat, as my garden is confined to a shower stall. When i added the LED it took the temp up 5 degrees. but i guess the 18 cfl's are kicking off a little heat.
18 x 1600 lumen = 28,800 Lumen using 414w + the LED not sure the numbers on it
How does that compare with HID?
Monkey
