Ola, bon jour, etc.

So...I suddenly find myself in possession of some of Stitch's gear, and need to put together a grow journal. This brings up a number of questions, as I am by nature much more a consumer of information than a producer. Such as:
How paranoid do I need/want to be?
Do I need to upload photos to an intermediate site, or can (should?) I upload directly from my 'puter? If not/shouldn't, what sites?
What's the best way to strip exif data? (Currently working in Lightroom 4 - already found the 'strip GPS' button.)
[Edit: In Win 7 (at least) right-click on an image>properties>details^'remove personal information' near bottom.]
What size/format photos are preferred? Is there a cumulative or periodical upload limit?

What about video? Same basic questions.

And what's with the Latin in the 'Image Settings" window? Just reminds me what a waste 4 years of high-school Latin was.

I'll think of more, but now I'm gonna experiment.

Hmm. Ok, not sure quite how some got embedded and some remained thumbnails. Think I'd rather just post the thumbs & let folks click on them as interested. How might that work?

Oh, and it's near impossible to pick out the individuals due to what I'm calling my 'cola weaving' technique. But that's an Holy Smoke Malawi Gold on the right, and 2 WOS Colombian Gold on the left, and a Dr. Pepper on the top. MG 20 weeks from seed and 14 from sex, CGs 17 weeks from seed and 12 from sex.

Nope, by the time I got caught up on all 700 pages - or whatever it was - everyone had left to start their own forum. With ANOTHER 500 page thread that...I mostly skipped.

Sadly, "stupid" is not currently recognized as a legitimate diagnosis in my state. Would that it were.

Maybe I'll leave one. I'm sure I'll fabricate a reason to show off the girls in my journal somehow.

Ok, so I'm chomping at the bit to get my Chaze/SCH grow thread started for Stitch. But my photo girls just aren't quite finishing for me. Despite hitting 120 days of 12/12 (or less) on 9/23. I'm not being greedy, either - I'll happily chop 'em with >50% cloudy trichs and maybe 1% amber, but we ain't there yet.

Anyway, I figured I'd put all my background info and prior experience here in this thread where it won't clutter up subsequent grow threads and can be easily referenced as warranted. And I can experiment without bothering anyone. So here goes...

How I got here:I started smoking dope as a tween in SW Fla. in the early 70's. Large volumes of Colombian traveled through my town at the time. The local news would often report about the ongoing "fishing disputes" between crab boats and shrimp boats resulting in automatic weapon fire and multiple casualties. Reportedly because the shrimpers were dragging up crab pots in their nets. We'd often find bales of pot washing up on the beach the next day.

So...I smoked 1 or 2 $20-$40 5-finger bags of primo colombian every week from about '74 until '81 when I was no longer a minor and, unwilling to risk incarceration, I stopped buying grass and started smoking cigarettes. Which meant that I spent the next 15 years addicted to nicotine and drinking a LOT more beer than I would otherwise have, just because of our idiotic prohibition laws.

Then, a couple Christmasses ago, a neighbor gave me what would have been a nickle bag (and is now something under an 1/8 oz.) of pot. I had been interested in getting a stash of my own for several years, but the opportunity hadn't presented itself. I enjoyed that stash immensely on the infrequent occasions when it seemed appropriate. It lasted well over a year (I still have some), but it got me to start researching growing. When I found out it was possible to order seeds from Europe, I got serious. After a year of reading grow forums [including ALL of the 500+ page Autoflower thread at, IIRC, rollitup and all of the RUST https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=36181 , both of which I'd recommend] I ended up dropping something north of a grand on a little grow tent setup that seemed appropriate for a beginner in my circumstances. 4'x2'x5' tent, 400w HPS/MH, 120 CFM fan, etc. Then I ordered a pack of Short Stuff seed mix and some other stuff from Attitude. The seeds arrived just fine, but Attitude DID steal my credit card info. I know because it was the only charge on that particular card in the prior year and my CC company called to inform me that someone was charging stuff to it from Europe a week after my Attitude order. I called Attitude to inform them that their site was compromised, eventually getting a call from the owner and, sadly, came away from that believing that he was complicit. But that's just my impression/experience; it didn't cost me anything or even really inconvenience me but don't give Attitude a real CC#, use a MO or single use card, is my advice. I've subsequently used Herbie's (with another lightly used real CC) without any intrigue. Just FYI, YMMV, no relationship with either company.

The Grows:

First grow I started 8 beans from the SS seed mix (unlabeled, so don't know which strains), got 4 survivors, 3 male and a female. Grew 'em out in Roots Organic soil w/worm castings and coco added & Fox Farm nutes. Milked the males, froze some pollen, and gang raped the girl. She smelled of pine in flower, juniper at maturity, and cured to a caramel martini with an undertone of blueberry. Good smoke: happy, horny, very mildly trippy (as in: increased auditory & visual perception), but for some reason wrecks my equilibrium (as in: balance, agility, dexterity, and spacial perception).

Huh. So you can only edit a post for 48 hrs. Good to know. Anyway...

Second grow was another 7 SS seed mix beans. All popped, had 4 survivors, killed the 2 males, and ended up with 2 girls in one pot. One of the girls I named Hercules because I abused the shit out of her and she just...would...not...die. First, I felt the need to "help" her shed her seed casing. When I "gently" pulled on one side of the seed husk, the tap root either came clean out of the rapid rooter or just snapped off. Not sure which, because I was so shocked and appalled that I immediately let go - and she dropped 5' and fell into the carpet. Where I stepped on her. After delicately shoving her stubbiness back into the rapid rooter, I put a couple drops of water on the seed husk to soften and loosen it. But in my panic, I used water I had prepared to feed my soil with. It had humic acid and molasses in it and dyed her cotyledons brown. A week later, just before transplant, she started to damp off. [As might be able to be seen in the first of three videos that I intend to post later at ~ the 5:15 mark. She's #3 counting from the top of the rapid rooter tray.] Since #3 was almost assuredly doomed, I just planted her off to one side of #1's pot, and buried her up to her neck so I wouldn't have to see the damping off.

This grow was also the first I tried with a modified subcool supersoil type medium. Since I over ferted the crap out of the first grow (partly intentionally, to feed the seeds on a seed run), I wanted to remove the temptation involved in using liquid ferts.
Auto Supersoil #1
1/2 bag roots organics
2# worm castings
1/2 c blood meal 13-0-0
1/2 c bat guano 0-7-0
1/2 c bone meal 3-15-0
2T epsom salt
1/4 c lime
1 tsp Azomite
4 c coco coir
6 c perlite
1 used coffee filter
3 egg shells

watered with 3qt water and
1/4 tsp humic acid and
2 tsp molasses then turned every day or three for 6 weeks.

This mix proved to be too high in N and low in K. I supplemented every other watering with 1/2 tsp 1-0-4 soluble maxicrop seaweed supplement, which I think helped, and some snowstorm ultra, which I don't think helped much. Now I have acidic water (~5.5), and had to add about 1/2 tsp @ gallon of baking soda on the first grow. Midway through the second grow, I stopped adjusting the Ph of the water, and just let the soil and lime do the work. Runoff stayed right around 6.5. Score one for the lazy man.

SS#1 turned out to be a skunk. Flowered skunk, matured skunk, and cured to skunk. Once cured, it smoked like pipe tobacco - incredibly smooth. Great fat dense buds covered in bright red hairs. With taste like...lemme see...skunk. A fantastic smoke with a strong high, but just too narcotic and couch locky for my taste.

SS #3 Hercules flowered lemon pledge, matured hard lemon candy, and cured to lemon drops and hash (spicy '70's era Lebanese blond hash is my point of reference for this). Cured to a great smoke - not as smooth as the skunk, but much better tasting. Small sativa style buds with large calyxes. Not as potent as the other girls (which is fine by me), mildly visual, munchies, very mild cottonmouth, time dilation, happy - even made Tosh.0 funny, and energetic in waves. The flip side of "energetic in waves" though, is it can also cause a pretty stupifying hard crash.
