Lighting How many lights do I need

Your total room size is 120 sq. ft well that sounds big enough for 50 plants to me, even if you don't use the whole area. I've grown 25 plants in a 2m (20 sq. ft) space with acceptable results, but I was using 7 litre (2 gallon?) pots and watering was very difficult as I couldn't access the back of the room. It was my first grow and I yielded 765g, I had 2x 600W lights. Since then I have always reduced the number of plants, now I never grow more than 18. I can get a higher yield with 12 plants as I could with 25, and it's still SOG style.

Here is the evidence, the room with 25 plants:

And here it is with 11:

So I hope these pics help you with your decision, you can clearly see that filling the floor space with pots is not necessary for a good SOG. With so many plants I guess you don't want them growing very tall so I don't see the need for 5 gallon pots, you're just making more work and cost unnecessarily.

But mind you, I would never even attempt this, if I had commercial interests.
In my humble opinion SOG only pays off in Coco or using hydroponic systems.
On soil I would always go for bigger pots, less plants. One plant for every 1.5 square foot are usually nice.

I agree Super Mario this is exactly my experience too.

Can we see a picture of the grow space? Overall it sounds like a good plan but get a good ventilation system, heat will be your main enemy. Maybe better to try a grow with 50% of the space/lighting first?

It's funny how this thread shifted:D:
But it just makes sense to use less plants, especially when you are growing autos. Less soil, less seeds ( = a whole lot less money! ) and most importantly, less work:group:.

Very nice that you can provide a good comparison with pictures SmokyD:High 5:.

Nope, that was almost a decade ago,I changed cameras twice since then :wiz:. But doesn't matter anyway, I need to sell it. A 100x100cm tent just looks plain ridiculous in my new apartment :D: Im going all 60x60cm (2x2 feet) tents and closets, they do blend in properly in normal households..

EDIT : Another great thing about less plants..If you get caught, the less plants you've got the better. I found it incredible amusing to see so many med. people in california staying within their legal plant count, by just going outside and growing 6-10 feet high plants that yield many pounds combined :X's Evil Laugh x:

Yeah man those auto seeds are real expensive! I hadn't even thought of that...

Actually I wanted to see a picture of StillSmokin's grow area :D so I could get an idea of where the lights could be positioned. A feeble effort at staying on-topic ^^

Sorry, I misunderstood :D:.

That's the gist....

It's sad really.

I think the interesting part of the discussion is the uber commercial SOG vs the actual tended garden...

When you get down to it- I'm pretty confident that I could pull 50 oz - which is what he is talking- from let's say 20 autos, that's a few pushing 3 most pushing 2 and a few pushing 1 oz. that leaves plenty if margin for error- and likely results in more than 50 zips... Now I'm watering less than half as many plants, and spending alot more time "gardening"- tending and training them...

Both grows sound like more work than fun- but the whole idea of actually working with the plants is sooooo very much more appealing.

The mentality at work here is a POV that is foreign to me. It's the home Gardner vs the factory farm all over again.

Auto beasters anyone?

Note- I sometimes scrog a sativa, and in as much as my closet is "crammed" it's a "SOG" use you space wisely- fill it up. I'm not knocking the sog- or the commercial grow... There's just a mentality behind alot of them that I don't get

Ill upload pix in a day been busy im planting 50 autos hoping to get 2 or 3 oz a plant I kno ill get 1 for sure
50 oz = 6 pounds not bad dont u think n I got a big warehouse fan n 2 inline fans ima run a ac unit but
On fan mode only.... I got 5 grand when I got out the army so grow room cost dont matter I was gonna do 50 dwc buckets
But I rather soil

50 zips is a lil over 3 lbs :smokebuds:

Why aren't you doing photos from clone for a big comercial op?

Word. Exactly what I am wondering about the whole time. Autos don't do commercial well if compared to photos. I'd rather sustain a good photo motherplant and, cut down the time I need for everything about a month, also save a lot of electricity, end up with more nuggets, more money, and I wouldn't have to worry about the huge amount of cash buying seeds everytime consumes. But I guess this is to "high tech" :stylez rasta smoke:. There are some great offerings for bulk seeds, but the best & cheapest suppliers don't deal with individuals, and even if they do, you have to know how to talk about this properly, or they smell fish and ignore you very quickly. I know about one bulk dealer that sells cheap fem autos to everyone, but most of them are noname seeds, so everything is a little bit shady..

Good Luck:tiphat:

Everyone here knows that good autos produce good herbs. I wouldn't believe anybody who claims to can tell the difference between autos and photos if he doesn't know which is which.
