Yeah, same for me. I can't get my brain around what is effectively adding run off to a fresh nute mix and feeding it back in again.
Is there a way of draining off to waste and keeping the nutes fresh? By about the 3rd flood and drain, the reservoir wont have the same levels of N, P, K etc that you originally mixed up, and don't even go to what that might do to the res pH? Oh my head!!!
I'm guessing that as they take up water from the feed, the volume of the res goes down each time you flood and drain, so by the 3rd flood, there's not much left.... you top up with fresh nutes, and it all balances out....
I mean, fuck, it obviously works, you're living proof of it.... your plants look amazing!
I'm dying to try this.... always wanted to automate my watering, and you make trying new ways look so easy!
I think the smaller res helps m8.. the fact that I'm adding nute mix at a rate of about 10L every 2/3 days.. means my 30L res is being replaced bit by bit with fresh mix to the point where after maybe a week I've topped up 30L.. so effectively changed the res completely for new mix rater than the same 30L lying in there and getting reused over and over.. if that makes sense lol
I would imagine a bigger res would need changed out completely every week/10 days to keep it fresh.
