 what would be the best system to disguise the smell during the flowering period,? thanks

ONA? What does it stand for?

http://onaonline.com

ONA gel will eliminate a lot of the odor, but it replaces it with some sort of fragrance. I personally couldn't have a new scent of laundry linen or something like that appearing in my house, so I went with the carbon filter. That's the only way to have no odor.

Thanks for the explanation AndyBotwin!

But tell me something about the activated charcoal filter: How long does it last? I saw some really cool home made filters made out of different sized pencil cases and socks, simple and effective... and I was wondering fpr how long (aproximatelly) do they "work"?

No worries - AFN is the most noob friendly site around. I don't recall ever seeing anyone post that a carbon filter has lasted less than a year. Though consistently high humidity levels (60%+) are supposed to decrease the effectiveness of the charcoal at a faster rate. The homemade filters are obviously going to vary depending on how you make them, but I would guess that you'd have no problem making it through a full auto grow. As long as you make it easily refillable, you just swap out the carbon when you notice the smell returning.

Hey man, welcome to AFN :bong: If your looking for good autos look at any from flash seeds or from short stuff seeds, these seem the most popular with good strains, both reputable too and I'd say short stuff mi5 seems to be a favourite amongst growers and good yield too..hope this helps bro

Guys, the ONA gel is not to be depended on at all... it is solely supplementary, and best useful just outside the door of ur grow room to eliminate any smells that might escape when you open the room and subsequently lose negative air pressure which leads to smells actually leaving the room even if you have a filter installed. So in situations like those ONA helps, but if you don't have a carbon filter don't think the ONA gel will do much for you.

Carbon filters are essential for any one growing imho.

Carbon filter and Wunderbaums FTW :bong:

Carbon filter will clean 99.5% of the smell and you have Wunderbaum because you look every 10 min in your tent to see if the palnts have grown and smell slips out then...

This tutorial will teach ya how to BUILD an activated carbon filter and INSTALL IT.

I am sorry if the pictures are big in the begining, i just newbied and am lazy to fix it... atleast its easy to read and understand.
You shall surf through them, and it doesnt slow the page with huge downloads.
I just dont know how I did it, I used the quick reply way...

Its not my creation, its been posted on grasscity's forum by Bohbo
Feel free to go check it out! They got a LOT of cool tutorials!
:P
I just cant garantee if the vets will be so atentious as they are HERE!

THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES!
This tutorial was made aiming its functionality and lowbudget
So we're using:

Large Pen Holder 2 x 6.49
~13

Petco:
PETCO Activated Carbon at PETCO
Activated_Carbon.jpg
28 OZ 9.99 (on sale 6.99)
~10

~29 for 2 or <$15 each

"Walmart:
You can Probably get everything at Petco and Walmart if you don't have a staples and Kmart / Target. Personal preference for me. I found this thread below and thought I would include a link as I think his material choices are easier to obtain (staples didn't have a normal size one for whatever reason Kmart did, Walmart is everything etc etc.)"

Okay Now for the How to:

Gather Materials

Materials_All.jpg

STEP 0 (Optional*): Drill Holes in Bottom
Aergardenguy was the first person brave enough to try it (was fear of shattering base) I used a 5/32 normal drill bit. The aluminum is soft and you can drill through it without much trouble with a normal wood bit.
*Optional for normal operation if you want to run inline this step is needed.

Step0_1.jpg

Step0_2.jpg

Step0_3.jpg

STEP 1: Put Stocking on cups from so the open and closed ends match. IE put cup bottom first into stocking.

STEP 2: Fill 14oz (half of the 28 oz bottle) into each larger through stocking hole or pulled back split evenly.

Step2_2.jpg

STEP 3: Secure outside stocking over rim to the inside cup. And Flip over with hand over top and gently twist and shake and tip back and forth a couple times to even it and secure it hold upside (you want all the carbon towards open end and leave space on the bottom.

Step3_1.jpg
Step3_2.jpg
Step3_3.jpg
you may need to shake it...
Step3_4.jpg
Step3_5.jpg
fit it good!

STEP 4: Finish off the stocking pull inside stocking out of the middle cup until it starts to clear the edge pull from end and secure.

Step4_4.jpg
Step4_6.jpg
Step4_7.jpg
Step4_8.jpg

STEP 5: Attach to 4" Fan or to fitting
Step5_1.jpg
Step5_2.jpg
InPlace1.jpg

If you desire, you may add it to the hood of your lamps as well!
OnHood_2.jpg

Or, For Exhaust Installation See Below (You Would use this if you can't vent to outside and are venting in your house etc, as this will mask the most smell but reduces airflow more than having it on intake)

Exhaust_2.jpg
Exhaust_3.jpg

Exhaust_6.jpg

There was more content on the original post, for inline installation, but I sincerelly dont understand WHY to do that, since it will be a pain in the ass to maintain and repair the filter!
Once again, this tutorial was NOT my creation.

Hope it helps!

I've gotta say, I've made one of those pencil holder filters before. Didn't work as well as I hoped it would.

And just want to add that the total price of supplies seems to be around the same price as a 'real' carbon filter from H T G ($50 4" filter)
