Live Stoner Chat Hi all! First grow Northern Lights Auto

Hi there I just wanted to introduce myself and load some pics of my first/current grow. I have been reading these forums a lot and figured it was time to start posting. This grow was Nirvana Northern Lights autos. My light is a 600w HPS with cooltube, and I have 4 plants in waterfarm buckets. I used GH nutrients with the Lucas formula. Initially I tried growing these in a tent, but they got huge! I kept them in a tent for way too long, so my canopy is very uneven. Aside from that I am happy with how things went but I know there are a lot of ways to improve my next run including my setup. At day 30 I forced them with a week of 12/12 and then switched to 18/6.

I figure I have another 2 weeks or so to go. They are starting to get pretty frosty with a nice piney smell to them. Please give me any feedback. Thanks!

That's one impressive grow, first or not - please stick around on the site and start up a grow journal when you get the time, I'm sure others are curious as to what you did to achieve results like that the first time around! (I see your light, nutes, etc up there.. but still!)

Do you have a microscope or a loupe to check out the trichome clarity to get an idea of harvest time?

Thanks for the encouragement, it has been a lot of fun learning about growing from this forum, as there is a lot of awesome growers here. I have tried to strain my eyes really hard to see the trichs haha but I am am picking up a loupe this weekend. I am super excited about my next run and am trying to figure out what strain to try next.

Welcome Greenink to AFN! first off, great grow man, looks like you came out with a awesome yield! this is second forum i have been on, started on roll it up and left cause of the people and disrespect! this forum is amazing when it comes to respect and friendly help and compliments! you will love this place! i havent been here long and already feel like part of their family
i have a 420 scope with the 100x mag on it, if you dont have a scope you need one!

Welcome greenink I'm new here too but love it. Like guerrillasmoke said lots of awesome ppl here unlike some other forums...

Stoked on the nirvana northern lights! Placed my first ever seed order with attitude back in November, got a 5pak of those NL autos and 3 moby dick autos. Ended up running one of the freebies (blue OG by g13) as practice. We'll see how she finishes up, should be a month and a half or so. Really excited to run one of those northern lights.

How does she respond to stress like topping? LST?
Is she the hungry type?
Did it not auto flower? (You mentioned force flower 12/12 at 30 days for a week..but then said 18/6 for remainder.)
Multiple cola type or better for single cola style- maybe SOG?
how strong was odor during flower? (Picked this strain because I heard low odor..now I don't really care I guess carbon filter works great)

I found it pretty frsuterating after I got underway that there was not a great deal of info on the Nirvana Northern Lights auto, except for people talking smack about it on rollitup. They are pretty convinced that it is not a good strain, and im not totally sure either because as I mentioned im pretty new to this.

I germinated 7 seeds, I didn't think that everyone would germinate but they all did, so I had 3 extra. Up until day 12 they were all under a fluorescent light. I put 4 of them under a 600w MH and left 3 under the fluoro. What was interesting is that the 3 left under the 24 hr fluoro showed sex at 20-23 days, so they did autoflower while the 4 under the MH didn't show sex until day 34-36. Not sure if it helped switching to 12/12.

In regards to the shape, LST, and SCROG, all I know is that I really did not pay much attention to this and it probably greatly affected my yield. Like I mentioned before, my canopy is very uneven, with the larger colas shading out the sides. It seems like the NL's shape 1 to 2 predominant Colas with some pretty good side colas.

If I were to do it again, I would probably top them(before 40-45 days) and then SCROG in order to get 4 or 5 big colas. My plants were about 1' tall up until day 45 and then they literally shot up to 3.5' in a week! From what I understand, this growth spurt is indicating them starting their true flower period (even though they have already showed sex and pushed out some pistils)? The odour was never terrible, but they started to smell the most in early flowering (more than now), and i had to get a carbon filter which has completely fixed the problem.

I do not think they are heavy feeders. I was giving them 1000 ppm (.5) or 1400 ppm (.7) early flowering to now, and it has been an easy ppm to maintain. When I ramped it up to 1250 (.5) PPM the tips started to burn a little bit. My ph was around 5.5-5.7 throughout the grow and I have just started to see signs of an Mg deficiency as it is not available up to 5.9 so I have fixed it now.

I had about a 1/4 of one of my plants break off about a week ago when I was moving it but I dried it and smoked it. I was very impressed with the quality of smoke, it has a real piney taste and smell. It is definitely very strong.
