Grow Mediums Hempy Write UP

Well i used to do dwc ,you can grow massive plants but do old and busted up for whats involved. Just my opinion.
Which isnt worth much.
I just do perlite now.
I water/nute mix once every 24 hrs.
I just use a 4 gallon bucket with a hole in the side about 2 to 3 inches up the side.
I make sure my mix is 5.8 to 6.2 ph.
Thats it, its cheap, quick and easy.
I grow in a cabinet so i keep my plants to no more than 3ft.
Not the best but works great for me and im not spending alot of money at all which is why i grow to begin with .
Just what i do.
Just my opinion.
Good luck,easy and cheap.

how do you start your seedlings?

I soak in luke warm water for 12 hours then right in a root plug . After she pops, then i put plug in perlite. Thats it.
O, i do lightly file my seed before the soak.
Good luck
There are some really great growers here and a lot of different ways to grow.
Im just a rookie and i come here with questions myself.
I am far from expert like some here but i get by.

Well thanks for sharing the info.
i tried to make my own plug out of peat. hope it holds together lol.
once i get established ill post a pic or two

sweet. is it really that easy? i wanted hydro results but too many moving parts.
this seems like it is for me.
i was thinking 10ltrs bucket and straight perlite.
let me know if you have any advice for beginner:smoking:

I do find HB to be pretty easy... and best thing for me is the no use of electricity and less components (compared to popular hydro methods) and not as many pest issues to be on top of as with soil. I usually prefer to go with Coco/Coco+perlite Hempy which is a bit more complicated than your basic perlite+vermiculite HB but gets closer to conventional hydro results IMO...

If you have a good light on your plants, I'd say 10 Lt buckets of only perlite will need more frequent watering than the normal 5 gal HB or taahn a 10 lt HB with Pperlite+vermiculite or Coco, specially during flower and also taking to account that you want hydro results (the more frecquently you water, it seems to get closer to hydro results)... but i haven't really had enough experience with perlite-only HBs to really comment on that.

I would def recommend you get a good pH meter... might not need it depending on your nutes and water source, but better to have it.
Also, make sure to rinse your perlite before using it.. it has lots of dust.

Ah yes, good points i didnt mention.
Definitely a good rinse of the perlite first.
Also didnt mention that once a week i dump one gallon of ph water as a kind of a flush, drain it out and give it its regular daily feeding .
Have no idea if it needs done,i just kinda carried that over from my dwc days .
As far as feeding goes, remember this works for me and my size bucket.
Also if u have a hole in the side, it depends how high the hole is pertaining to how much food the bucket will hold.
Simple things really, just have to learn what works for your container . Also i think ph is of utmost importance in a perlte grow.
Make sure u check your ph in your food before giving it,most important i think.
I have found with my well water,my ph can change daily.
So i always mix up enough food for a couple days of feeding and let the water sit, still checking ph daily though.
I have messed up water!!!
Hope that helps

so here it is lol
nothing to it. i think i put the hole too close to the bottom but i guess i can feed twice a day maybe to compensate for the shallow reservoir.
@Mañ'O'Green said to bubble air through some water for a few days to stabilize pH. so i think ill use a five gallon bucket and an air pump to keep some aerated water around for feeding

What is that?

hey I actually have my bucket with 2 holes in it.
I just took a bolt with an o-ring and screwed it in the lower hole, also I take it out when I do a flush, then back in.
Makes it eaiser to tilt the bucket when I flush.
@Mañ'O'Green ,good point about bubbling the water before hand.
forgot about that from my dwc days.
scince my plants drink most daily, i just check before i feed.
